Just for discussion's sake, what do people think is a reasonable arsenal of rods/reels/line to cover all shore fishing situations one is apt to encounter? What's your ideal, and what's your bare minimum? Thanks for your input.

I use a 704z on an allstar 1266 for just about everything except light stuff which I use a Lami Surfking 9' with a 712z or slammer 460

What I use-
Open beach plug- SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline or 9' Triflex w/710 and 14 fireline
Open beach eeling- SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline or 9' Triflex w/710 and 14 fireline
Pencil popping- SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline
Canal Plugging- SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline
Canal jigging-XS 10 MHC w/abu 7000 and 50/65lb braid want to upgrade to a faster reel probably 525 mag
Rock plugging-SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline
Rock eeling-SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline or XS 10 MHC w/abu 7000 50/65lb braid Thinking of getting an SSU1201MH wrapped convech for this though to go with a abu 7000
Bait- SB 136 4M w/abu 7000 50/65lb braid or XS 10 MHC w/abu 7000 50/65lb braid
jetty- SSU1201M w/706 and 30 fireline or XS 10 MHC w/abu 7000 50/65lb braid
Sheltered back bay- 9' Triflex w/710 and 14 fireline or 7 foot freshwater rod with 712 and 10lb big game mono

I think for the most part I could just get away with 2 setups the ssu1201m/706 and a heavier conventional (probably ssu1201mh in the future) but for now my xs10mhc and 7000 abu.

Open beach plug XRA 1322 VS 300
Open beach eeling XRA 1322 VS 300
Pencil popping XRA 1322 VS 300
I easily have over a 100-30 plus lb fish on this rod..
IMO the best pencil rod made..
Canal Plugging XRA 1322 VS 300
Canal jigging Allstar 1209 Diawa Saltiga 5000
Rock plugging XRA 1322 VS 300
Rock eeling XRA 1322 VS 300
Bait XRA 1322 VS 300
jetty XRA 1322 VS 300
Sheltered back bay GSB 1321M VS 300

Why use a short rod and have the fish be just out of range.I will go with the big gear till I can't fish anymore.I recently made the move to VS from The penn 706z.Keeping the reels the same.I don't have to think about retrieval speeds..
The GSB 1321M,, I will use plugging on the open beach also.It is a better all around caster in the high and low range than the Arra. The Arra is softer..It is probably a little tired.Too many big fish..:laugha: My Arra has wire frame perfection guides which handle the falls on the rocks better.NIB is a Clutz..I can still feel the Knot on my shin from this yrs spill In June..
I recently purchased another GSB 1321M I will rap with the perfection guides so I can use that on the rocks..

Jetty or canal, VS250 and 10ft St Croix premeire surf
everything else, VS200 and 10ft St Croix premeire surf, both with 65lb PP
unless I fish bait (which is rare) then Ill bust out the spheros 12000 with 25lb mono on an ancient, but good, 12 ft rod

Too many, and used too interchangeably, to list. The only exception is the All Star 1209/Saltiga 6000-Z combo used exclusively for Canal jigging.

Im pretty damn moody, so i can go with either conventional of spinning and be happy.
1201L with a stradic 6k or 706z for most RI duties, except when it gets real crappy and i need big wood, then its convench. RS 1208 with either a 7k Abu or 6500 and the rest of the territory is covered. When i want to have a little fun with blues, a 1088 with 6500 abu is a riot and light as a feather.

I use 5 rods, some overlap a little in what they cover and how I use them. I love my rods, it took me a lot of blanks to find what I wanted. I just wish I had the reel collection you guys all seem to have but what I have works for me & where I fish.

Needles, light swimmers & working hogy/sluggos -allstar 1087 w/ a penn 460 slammer

Reg Beach plugging, eels pencils, large plugs, all star 1145 w/ cabo 60

Canal topwater- spinning- lami 1321 1m, emblem pro 5500, a great long distance rod, but @ 11' more than 2 hours working pencisl with this rod and I'm beat.

Canal Conv plugging and jigging the slow current days, arra 1205 conv w/ a abu 7000i hsn. I just wish I could get comfortable working a pencil on a conventional rod. The 1205 will also be my canal eeling rod when I decide to learn to fish eels in the canal.

Canal jigging, allstar 1209 conv. w/ abu 7000 hcl

I use the 1209, or the 1145 about 90% of the time, and the others just fill smaller more specific niches better than a 'do everything rod'.

A Lami 1201M w/ a 706/VS250 or similar sized reel probably covers 7 of those...
It won't do 8 and bait
Is not ideal for canal jigging.
It would be overkill for most backwater fishing.

otherwise.
It is the balls.
