Headed out of ryders early in the morning. Just as it was getting so you could see we arrived at the inlet, and it didn't look to bad. We got in the channel and soon we were staring at a 8 foot WALL. We drop off that one, only to be greeted by a breaking 10'+ wall of water. We took the bow of the boat about 4 feet up, and the wave came completely over the t-top and rigging, puttng a foot of water into the boat, it was pretty scarey stuff, the boat following us must have had an awsome view!

We got past the inlet and had a nice ride out to the grounds, got the lines in and had one smash one of the bars, no hook up. We trolled around trying to find the fish, around 8 we had fish in the spread again, this time we hooked up. I fought the fish and we brought it on board, a nice fat 55'' fish.

Trolled the same area and 10 minutes later Chris gets to fight a nice 60'' fish which we got a good release on. After that we had 2 more smashes with no hook ups, so we decided to call it an early day. The rollers did a number on me today, I puked a few times  I never got sick on our old boat  So we left fish that were hitting, we were all pretty beat.

Still a fun day that could have started out REAL bad with us dying at the inlet

Talked with my cousin who lives in Chatham a little while ago. Said a few guys leaving that inlet were surprised on their way out this morning. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to those huge waves right there.

We'll see what tomorrow has in store for us.

Glad you are safe and at least you hooked up so the trip was worthwhile!!!

They said on the weather the other day to expect some huge seas out in the ocean from a storm that pass to N. Scotia probably from that. Glad you lived and nice fish.

I've been through that inlet many times !
Coming out there is very little water and you skip the sand getting out !

My buddies boat sank on it's mooring a few years ago (in front of Chatham bars inn) during a fall storm!
Standing on the harbor masters dock, looking with my binoculars, the waves crashing the bar looked like they were as high as 10 story buildings !

It's tough in the dark. We let a larger boat go ahead of us and he just bobbed right through so we thought it looked fine. We just got a bad set of waves, at a bad time. I'm just glad we didn't loose anyone overboard. It would have been a tough spot to retrieve someone.

That's an inlet I won't touch. Night, fog, bright sun, it all sucks.
