Last monday I bought a new laptop for school

Only problem I have with it is that the battery fully charged only lasts about 2 hours. Now what I'm wondering is if this is what laptop batteries usually run for this long? And if anyone can recommend whether an 8 or 12 cell ion battery would be better?

thanks

You could try tweaking the settings.Control Panel>Power Options. There are several options there to help preserve battery life.

I know this is off topic but...how much did you pay for the new comp?My GF's daughter is off to college this fall and we need to get her one.

I have the battery option set to power saver, and it's not doing all that much to save the power lol

We paid a little over 600 for this at Best Buy.

Since the topic is Laptop Batteries,
What's the typical life of a battery ???
My (Dell) laptop is about 4 years old, battery goes dead in 4-5 minutes.

That's about what you can expect for an AMD processor w/6 cell battery. LCD's are the biggest power consumers on a laptop.Keeping the screen dimmer can help extend battery life as well. Playing DVD's/CD's or using the optical drive will also eat up battery life.

Exactly what he said - that's what I get.

Ron - that is not unusual for that. Question is do you keep that laptop for another year or two and get a new battery (or just keep it plugged in) or do you skip the battery and get a new laptop.

Yeah, I'm just gonna take it easy for now, kinda broke. When I go to orientation next wednesday if I see my classes, i'll scope out and see if they have a place to plug these in. :)

I am a DCSE, and there have been many issues reported with the Dell Battery packs. You may want to contact Dell and maybe exaggerate your issue to them.

The new and improved battery does work better, but it won't take long before it's life gets shorter and shorter until it stops holding the charge.......and batteries aren't cheap either. :bsod:

I bought a remanufactured one on ebay for about 40 bucks, the first one they sent was junk, it was crashing my laptop. I sent it back and they sent another one, no problems with number 2.

Well I got my schedule last week on Tuesday, and I should be alright for the most part :)

I'm not too sure if I wanna trust reman batteries yet, but it's always an option I look at :kewl:
