Went out tonight with no expectations. Mostly I wanted the solitude of a beautiful sunset and enjoy a cold beer while I drifted chunks. The tide was more than half way out and I thought I would be too late for anything good. Boy was I wrong! I've never seen that many pogies in my life. Huge schools being chased by blues. I threw my chunks out and the guy next to me was snagging pogies and live lining them. I had nothing to snag with but suddenly one of my rods bent over and I started reeling in but then it felt like nothing on the other end but I kept reeling and found a pogie had wrapped itself in my leader. I hauled him up and and threw him back out with a hook in its' back. My first live bait fishing. He swam for over 1/2 an hour before being devoured by a mid size blue. Good fun! Took him home and will fire him on the grill tomorrow night. Nobody I saw caught a striper, only blues. I can't believe how much bait was there tonight. I'll have to get the skiff out there soon! I'm glad I got out there, oh and the beer tasted so much better when your catching!
