No Joke - but that's why I'm asking. Normally we do Saturday afternoon but if we do Sunday, the traffic won't be as bad.

We can do the weekend before - apparently some good canal tides too

it would be better I think for the weekend after labor day. reason being it is short notice and most people are already locked into family stuff as it is the end of summer.
it would be nice if people Actually SHOW UP!!! this is the biggest, most popular sb web site with oooodles of members and lurkers, yet the same 10 people show up.
DON'T BE SHY PEOPLE!!

as an aside: ya know I don't think of myself as an innovative person, but this idea of meeting people from the internet, especially for hobby-related stuff and actually spending time (not just exchanging money for goods) still seems kinda foreign to a lot of people. Maybe we truly are innovators and ahead of our time?
that said, although I've done the cutty trip and talked to people at shows, I'd like to take part in more S-B stuff, but can't do the weekend after labor day

I thought the same thing until I went to the cape leg and attended TFCTFN. Also met a bunch of guys at 5/0's winter footbal bash too. Meeting people from a fishing web site seemed a bit strange, but most turned out to be real good people(except NIB);).
Actually most of the people I've met were known by someone I already knew and introduced to me.
Its not like meeting some stranger in a dark alley for the first time by any means. Besides, a clean cut conservative gent like myself would never do that...:eyes:

If you're thinking of showing up, go for it. Its a good time.

Matt, it's a good time. I just think we might consider a meet up point, go off to fish, then having the cookout AFTER the fishing.

I would like to meet more of you guys. The ones I have had a chance to meet and fish with turned out to be great learning experiences for me. Everyone is usually pretty quick with help or a pointer when needed.

Sunday you might have some heavy volume of traffic coming off-Cape, but almost nothing going on-Cape. It should be fine in the area of M&Ds anyway.

don't get me wrong, I'd love to go, just making the point that might the reason not that many people go ya know? part of the reason why this site is so great is because the people are really nice when you meet them in person too!

Like all hobbies, the more you get into it, the more you have to "expand" beyond your circle of friends. Online communities such as this one is a great way to exchange ideas and get to know new people. Besides, spending a lot of time alone in the dark talking to your self for expended periods of time under various weather conditions not perhaps good for one's mental health.

JohnR
08-27-2008, 07:49 AM
Hardbait - short version is that it is an afternoon cookout followed by a Catch and Release Tourney for S-B members (like yourself) in local waters. Catch and Release a fish, witnessed by another S-B member.

Mass Leg:

OK - THIS Sunday is good? Down the Canal? Once I get some kind of consensus I'll run it by Mike to make sure its OK.

Please say if you are in or out !

Thankyouverymuch

Sure you can come..No need to detour..We have our little shindig right behind a tackle shop..
Mikes M&D's tackle. It is a fine family run operation. He is also a sponsor of this site.Check him out in the sponsors section..Mike also is a Master rod builder. Most times he has some customs up on the rack.He also has a full compliment of gear to choose from.Don't let that little store fool ya..He is a full service shop chock filled with everything a novice or the expert needs to get the job done..I plan on jiggin the canal. With currents that can push 5 kts it is a different kinda animal.Jig fishing can require some stout tackle.Really a specialty type of thing.U could probably bounce some bait along the edges or plug with gear that could be used as well in other surf applications..So much to learn in basically no time.As far as picking brains..Well good luck..I for one have almost no brains left..So, picking mine is not an option. You want to hook up with that Back Beach guy.He sure does have a great wit.He has posted words I had to look up in the dictionary..I also hear he is a good teacher....Just look at the year his protege' redlite is having..
One other thing..As the new guy..Your on the grill Flippin burgers...
Ok.

I have to admit it was your overwhelming generosity with your own custom plugs that inspired that post. The painstaking attention to detail and design pushes me to do the best I can.Lord knows I am all thumbs when it comes to making plugs.Working with power tools an all,it is an amazing feat in itself I still have my opposing digits..I can only aspire to one day be as accomplished as you.thanks again for the plug you gave me.It is awesome..
