teezer 08-21-2008, 08:06 PM Thanks AH I had not seen it.
steve 08-22-2008, 06:08 AM Wow, that video should piss- off a few people!
The Iceman 6 08-22-2008, 07:59 AM Insightful video. Funny that it was from WSJ.
UserRemoved1 08-22-2008, 08:09 AM great video but the guy is mistaken and I believe misrepresenting that this doesn't harm fish or kill them. Yea sure the bloofish spit out the lead right after he removed the hog ring and sucked down a nice bunker sandwich. How the hell you going to eat with a piece of wood in your throat too? Wood doesn't rot that quick? I think wood is not digestible and is only able to be digested by lichens? I'm not a fish biologist so I don't really know beyond what I've read.
It's wrong on many levels. Having pounds of lead stuck in your intestines is pretty clear evidence it's bad. Just another way to kill the resource.:smash:
fumifish 08-23-2008, 05:57 PM very interesting

Scott,
With all due respect, there are LOTS of things going on out there that are bad for all fish !
It's a VERY small percentage of guys who yo yo
You going to tell me all the yahoos casting light tackle (with your plugs) for school tuna is good for the tuna resources ???
UserRemoved1 08-23-2008, 06:29 PM I don't disagree Ronnie not one bit and I'm not arguing plug mortality here it's something that I don't like either but the guy is telling people that it doesn't kill the fish and I believe he's giving the wrong information.
I know there is a certain amount of fish killed with plugs I at least try to educate people and teach them how to use the stuff [properly to try to eliminate this from happening. I can't control what happens with my plugs after they leave but I'm sure not sitting here churning out a product that I know automatically increases the mortality rate on hooked fish like a skewer and a 1/4 pound of lead does.
I'll leave the plug business if you leave the charter business :hee:

Clammer 08-23-2008, 08:57 PM Didn,t bother to look at the video ;;But IMO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> that just killed another 100000 bass >>>>>>>> if you,ll troll umbrella,s & call it fishing then you,ll do anything to catch a fish > that just added to the small army that is fishing this way ;;
there is noway the hungries that didn,t know about this method won,t try it >>& taking it & posting it all over the internet IMO ..you just added fuel to the fire ;;;:fishin:
UserRemoved1 08-24-2008, 03:43 AM Skitter difference between what? I made the comment in jest about the charter business but look at it this way. Ronny pointed out that there is mortality from my fishing lures. Well so is there from his business. He's a good fisherman that livelines pogies, trolls for tuna and last time I checked that involved break-offs too...and the similarity of it being an income source for him is the same as the plug business for me. Like I said I'm not going to argue fish mortality it's resulted in too many locked threads, but I believe this guy is representing this wrong and I'm going to stand up and say so.
And Mike I dunno what to say. I don't see a discussion of this throwing fuel on the fire to make people go out and try this. The stuff has been talked about quite a bit online already. I don't see it that way? I'd be interested in hearing your comments on what the guy does say after you do watch the video.

Skitterpop 08-24-2008, 02:07 PM Hey Scott,
I should have added words. I meant I feel there is a big difference catching fish on plugs ( you can say yours) and Yo yahooing and leaving weights and what not inside fish still swimming.
I was agreeing with you. :wavey:
Mike
UserRemoved1 08-24-2008, 02:48 PM 10-4 no problem
piemma 08-24-2008, 04:48 PM believe it or not. Front page article in Fridays' Wall Sreet Journal. The whole story on Yo Yoing.
I'm 60 years old and guys have been doing this in RI since the 60s. I remember when a certain famous surfcaster and his friends were using old spark plugs shoved down the troat of bunker to Yo Yo in Charlestown.
shadow 08-24-2008, 05:16 PM I see what mike is saying sure there are guys yo- yoing plenty of guys, but like with lets say rigged eels or eel skins these things have been used for a long time by some, now there is some internet,or book talk about them by guys who are good at catching fish and all of a sudden everyone wants to do it.It's the new(old) fade.

So was it the WSJ or the S-Ber who posted it here that just killed another zillion bass???

the yo yo method is out there for everyone who wants to use it- i do not condone it. my intent was to show this video to sb'ers as an fyi >>>>>>#####not to add fuel to the fire as you say. i guess posting it here is posting it ALL OVER the internet......what ever...

Scott,
I was more referencing your last line "just another way to kill the resource"
I don't disagree that the guy was misrepresenting the facts.
nor am I going to say it's good for the resources of bass,
As Seadogg pointed of in another tread, there are ways to rig that can be far less harmful when yo yoing.
But I don 't think someone who profits from the kill of baby tuna (you came out with your plug "tuna tamer" with the explosion of guys doing light tackle) should be putting down another way of killing fish.
Anyone who knows anything about tuna knows prolonged battles with tuna and those fish are cooked, dead,ect....
I call that kind of hypocritical !
UserRemoved1 08-25-2008, 06:47 AM yea i'm a hypocrite

trapperpierre 08-25-2008, 05:20 PM ......come on guys.........stop giving ammo to the enviros that want to ban ANY form of fishing.........that includes your preferred methods.....:smash:
thefishingfreak 08-25-2008, 07:43 PM Just cause you learn how to stuff a weight down a pogies throat and zip it's mouth shut, don't mean you have a better chance of getting a bass. You have to know where to drop it down in front of there face first. the guys doin it are killin the bass to sell anyways. so whats a few scraps left around. as we all have seen these fish are alive and well with pounds of lead and sticks in them when they are eventually caught and killed. Not like there floating up on beaches dead from yo-yo rigs.
Do all the dead discarded troller bycatch 40-50 pounders floating on the backside of the cape every year have lead and skewers in there gut?

fcap60 08-26-2008, 05:54 PM I have to admit there appears to be alot of ingenuity into the technique. After all, we are all looking for an edge. Too bad that yo-yoing has some obvious downsides to the methodology
