View Full Version : Doing their job
Grapenuts 09-02-2008, 10:10 AM Seems the CG's been out every comm. fishing day this season off monnomoy and the islands with a helo filming every boat that goes over the 3 mile limit....looking for law breakers...after they film the boat catching fish in out of bound waters, they either hover right over them and call in a smaller CG boat to seize their prize or they hang back and follow the boat to shore where the men in green take over as in the case of one large boat that had 60 bass on board[on film]the boat went to one harbor and unloaded 30 bass in a dingy, then went over to another harbor to unload the other 30.Well the epo's were waitng at the second dock, when they asked about the boats catch the guy said we only have 30 here??..the epo's asked what about the other 30 you just unloaded in the dingy at the other harbor...caught...all on film....this is one reason the season has lasted so long..the old gang just can't get to the fishing grounds they've always fished.
ProfessorM 09-02-2008, 10:13 AM playing by the rules is a good thing.
striperman36 09-02-2008, 10:22 AM You mean they can't play their old games?
The price has stayed up this year and the quota has stretched out. Now all the fishing teachers have to fall out, so we'll see who is really commercial fishing now.
UserRemoved1 09-02-2008, 10:28 AM :claps: They're finally starting to smarten up.
keeperreaper 09-02-2008, 10:44 AM Good for the coasties and green cops.

Thats friggin awesome.........
Grapenuts 09-02-2008, 11:47 AM It's a good thing I guess,,sure keeps the price up, but have you noticed it's always the smallest group of comm.'s that get picked on. Never see the offshore guys get watched like this....Thank You Mr.xyz for your donation to our gov. fund.
fishbones 09-02-2008, 12:21 PM I was on vacation last week on the beach and every day from the time I woke up until late at night I was counting between 15 and 48 boats fishing one small area in CC Bay at a time. There were CG boats coming and going throughout the day and a helo making passes a few times a day. I ended up speaking with one guy who was filling up his boat at the gas station and he was complaining about a comm boat towing a dingy so he could have another license to keep more fish. Anyone know if it's possible to do this?
ProfessorM 09-02-2008, 01:20 PM I saw that idiot. I was wondering what the hell he was doing towing that thing. He went out of Barnstable Harbor. That doesn't sound kosher.
48 is a low estimate too, it sucked as my boat is not big enough to make anyone get out of my way. There would have been way more if the wind was not blowing so hard. It is a common occurrence every year at that spot. Just not worth it to me with the comm. season still open, and I got a license. Last year was way more fun

The windy conditions were nuts. I couldn't believe how many guys were out there in that weather. I'm assuming that there must have been some catching going on for that many boats being out there for that long of a time. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall listening to some of the conversations out there.
I also heard on the radio that there was a CG rescue at SN on Thursday during the day. I think the rescue boats left out of Barnstable Harbor. Do you launch there a lot?
ProfessorM 09-02-2008, 02:02 PM Yes and Yes and Yes. I was out that day and it was pretty nasty going home into B Harbor against the tide with that wind. Not a good day to be swimming in the channel like the rescued people were in an out going tide. Stupid actually.
fishbones 09-02-2008, 02:06 PM I'll keep an eye out for you down there, Professor. My dad may be able to put the boat in a slip at the marina there for the end of the season. A lot of the seasonal boats are going to be out by next week and his office is in the building right there overlooking the marina. Fall is a great time to fish that area.
Clammer 09-02-2008, 02:10 PM JUSt for my personal information ..would someone please tell me what you consider a way up price // RI opened yesterday /& its opening price was sooooooooooooooo low ; that its not worth going if Mass is open at the same time ;;
Thanks MIKE:smash:
ProfessorM 09-02-2008, 02:11 PM Yes siree fishbones
ProfessorM 09-02-2008, 02:17 PM Mass is pretty low right now, at least where I usually go. I think $1.50 on Sunday. It was pretty high until about a week or so ago, between 3 and 4 mostly, depended where you sold. I consider that pretty good. At the price now it would be hard to break even I would think unless you get 20 plus fish, which I usually never reach. According to the site we still have some to get. Guess it will have an impact on your fishery.

Grapenuts 09-02-2008, 03:18 PM Guess they pounded the bass just abit north of boston last week so that should drop the price to around a buck soon....an old comm. basser I talked to today said he's hanging it up for the season...between the price of gas/number of boats on the water and the patrol's everywhere, he can't get enough fish within the 3 miles to even break even.
Clammer 09-02-2008, 04:05 PM yeah ;;
that,s what our dealer was yesterday ; top 1.50 /
heard a confirmed [cash] dealer @1.15 .
I,m not even going to look for them @ that price ...never mind RI is 5 fish limit ;;;
