Is THIS what so many have fought and died for in war after war? so a freakin bird and a geek with binoculars can strip us of our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Barak! Barak! save us!!(just kiddin about the barak stuff). Maybe once kennedy's dead some common sense will come back to the peoples republic of massachusetts. Slipknot 09-02-2008, 08:59 PM if I had my sticker, I'd just drive right on thru at night anyway, but I bet it is because the shoreline is too skinny to pass. the anti's are ruining everything, time to fight back was years ago jkswimmer 09-03-2008, 12:33 AM "time to fight back was years ago" Ya 1989 Flaptail 09-03-2008, 05:41 AM Mostly because if you paid attention to the closure schedule listed on your brochure that is given out with your sticker each year Head of the Meadow is only open in August and closes September first which includes the High Head south section as well. It was never open all the way from HH to HOTM this year because there was insufficient beach front for vehicle access. That place historically caves each season where you have a really dangerous situation with your truck a foot away from a 6 foot drop. Learn the facts first before opening mouths. And BTW the real Nazis are the Bird People from the USFWS not the Seahore people. The Seashore people actually would like to see it all open. 2na 09-03-2008, 07:27 AM Flap's got the answer, HH to HOTM is open 7-1 to 8-31 only - that was the deal contained in the last negotiated settlement which closed #8 to HH in the spring. At the time it looked like a good tradeoff, but with hindsight.... As you get south of the south side campers there is .2-.3 of a mile (down from a full mile) where you may drive by, but the shoreline is roped off to public access because one of the bird fanatics allegedly 'saw' an endangered royal tern there, and they want to make sure that the bird will have beach to land on if it returns. No kidding. The rangers are not happy with that, but the bird people rule out there. Here is a excerpt from a recent article by Hugh Hewitt regarding the repub VP pick Sarah Palin and the Endangered Species Act (ESA): "In many key states --Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Washington and Oregon to name just five-- the “ESA” has had devastating impacts on many industries and communities. When Sarah Palin led her state into federal court to challenge the absurd listing of the polar bear as a “threatened species” because of predictions about what might happen to the bears if what might happen to polar ice actually did happen, she took a stand that will trigger sustained applause in places and among people who are actually familiar with the workings of this extraordinarily onerous statute. As an avid outdoorswoman and conservationist, she has zero fear of environmental activists jeering about her indifference to nature. Her passion for the great outdoors will reawaken the TR tradition in the GOP and combine it with an experience in federal bureaucratic meddling with state and local governance that will put inside the Beltway a true property rights’ advocate. I haven’t seen reference yet to any specific experience with Clean Water Act, NEPA or the Clean Air Act, but her familiarity with the federal hidden hand –the BLM, the USFWS, the ACOE—will be extremely useful as she campaigns across the country in communities hard hit by the expansion of federal regulation far beyond its intended and many believe constitutional limits. " "devastating impacts on many industries and communities" and "communities hard hit by the expansion of federal regulation far beyond its intended and many believe constitutional limits" - kind of like the Cape economy now that the beaches are shut for summer. We are at the mercy of these environmental zealots, and they do not intend to show mercy - they intend to drive us off of the beach. Next there will be a phantom siteing (sp?) of a passenger pigeon or dodo. In speaking with the rangers, there is a bad cut somewhere north of High Head and they are discussing not opening that stretch. They need a few calls to persuade them otherwise @ 508-487-2100. After all, the movie shows us how to traverse a cut. TheSurfcaster 09-03-2008, 12:56 PM The Rangers are actually on the fisherman's side, it the tree huggers and birders causing the issues and overreacting. I'm assuming that the "learn the facts before opening mouths" were directed at the posts in response to my inquiry and not my original question. In any case, I fully understand the HOTM closure, and the HH closure North makes sense as I've seen many times over the years that the cuts can be very narrow. In regards to the HH North issues, that section had been open with several stretches closed to birds ("least terns" to be specific--at least that is what a Park Ranger told me)...so I was surprised to see a closure of a normally open section especially after the birds have left and that section of beach normally builds over the summer. I apologize..but it seems that my question brought out the worst in some people. saltfly 09-03-2008, 03:16 PM aaaaahh! don't let it bother you. It's only FLAP:hihi: he means no harm. He's just frustrated as all who've been "regulated :rtfm:to death". Jenn 09-03-2008, 05:13 PM As others have said normal closure is 8/31/08 for HOTM. I dont know about the tern thing but there were some skinny spots out there. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
