WEEI’s Ron Borges is reporting that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady suffered a torn ACL today, (http://bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/patriots/www.weei.com)citing an NFL source close to the situation. If true, Brady is likely done for the season.

This is not a good injury for a QB.....at least it was his front leg and not the leg he throws from! He is gonna be down for quite awhile! Can you say Vinny Testarverde?

As a fan of the game, I hope this isn't true. Brady is a tough guy, he'll be back out there if it is possible.

We might not be that bad, Cassell looked okay, and with that offensive line and such talented receivers were still gonna be a tough team, and once the kid gets a few more games under his belt I think he'll get a lot better, remember, Brady was a nobody before he got his shot, and if for some reason Cassell can't handle it, there's only one name I can think of, Drew Bledsoe, you heard it hear first!!!

In Bill we trust jinxed him. He was not listed on the injury report this week. Good to go. First time in like 58 straight weeks we was not on the list and look what happened.

I'm not willing to give up on Cassel (yet). Only time will tell though. For what its worth he might be the best back-up QB ever (behind Palmer and Leinhart at USC and behind Brady in NE). Hoping he has some talent that we didn't see in preseason. For a team that has been QB-driven for the past 8 yrs, the running game looked pretty decent yesterday. I think the secondary is definitely a concern. O'Neal looked pretty good, but Ellis Hobbs is a pretty awful cover man if you ask me. Good return guy though.

I remember a few years ago when Drew Bledsoe got hurt, there were people ready to give up on the Pats. Then some unknown backup took over and did pretty well. Maybe the Pats will catch lightning in a bottle again and Cassell will do o.k. I'm certainly not giving up on the season if Brady's not coming back.

The real test for Cassell will be ateam witha legitamit defense not the Chiefs . I am not a Pat fan but as someone else said I do not want see Brady or any player suffer an injury like that. I was curious to see how they rebounded after their Super Bowl defeat.

What won the Superbowl was the Ravens' defense ;)

Exactly what i was gonna say, as long as Cassell doesn't make too many big mistakes then our offense should be fine, probably won't sweep the regular season, but that didn't get us anywhere last year anyway, I'm more concerned with our porous secondary, they did okay against the Chiefs young starter, but Damon Huard (former Patriot) gave them some trouble and almost tied the game at the end, can't blame them for losing Asante, but they should have signed Gay, not a great player but decent, and at least he knew our system, interested to see how we fare against Favre and the Jets next week, at least we've got a fairly weak schedule this year.

Exactly, they were able to win the Superbowl even with a stiff like Dilfer at QB, and we can do it with Cassell. At least Rohan Davey isn't still our backup, now that guy STUNK!!!

Because when Tom Brady (http://www.bostonherald.com/search/?searchSite=true&keyword=Tom+Brady&mode=score&sorting=pubdate) [stats (http://scores.heraldinteractive.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=bostonherald&page=nfl/teams/077/playeraaa.aspx?id=678,team=077)] went down in the first quarter of the first game, our first thoughts were NOT about whether or not Chiefs strong safety Bernard Pollard had taken a cheap shot at the QB/QT’s knee. Nooooo . . . .
One word leaped immediately to mind: Jinxele!

Because, let’s face it, Brady’s had an incredible run of bad luck since taking up with supermodel Gisele Bundchen!

Shall we recap? Shortly after No. 12 dumped Bridget Moynahan and started seeing the Brazilian bombshell, the Patriots (http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots.bg) [team stats (http://scores.heraldinteractive.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=bostonherald&page=nfl/teams/077/team.aspx?id=077)] lost a devastating AFC Championship game to the hated Indianapolis Colts, who went on to win Super Bowl XLI.
A month later, Moynahan announced that she was pregnant and that Brady was the father. A tsunami of bad press followed and the man previously known as Tom Terrific became - in the eyes of many former fans - a deadbeat dad.

Brady ignored the backlash, established what seems to be a nice bond with his baby son, Jack, and was cruising to a perfect season. Unfortunately, a few days before Super Bowl XLII, The Franchise was photographed hobbling into Gi’s New York apartment with a cast on his foot. Then he went to Arizona and, well, why rehash that horror show???

Which brings us to this past off-season. Brady went on his usual tour of the world with Gisele, only this time, he neglected to return to Foxboro for the offseason conditioning program.
Brady, who had always won the front-row parking spot for his obessive training regime, didn’t hit the Gillette gym for the first time in his career. And here is where it must be pointed out that the key to avoiding ACL injuries is - you guessed it - working out!
“Athletes can reduce their risk of ACL injuries by performing training drills that require balance, power and agility,” says sportsmedicine.com. “Adding plyometric exercises, such as jumping, and balance drills helps improve neuromuscular conditioning and muscular reactions and ultimately shows a decrease in the risk of ACL injury.”
But instead of pumping iron in Foxboro, Brady went surfing with Gisele and suffered another mysterious injury. This time to his foot. Not only did he miss the preseason workouts, he also missed the entire preseason!
OK maybe Gisele can’t take all the blame for Brady’s run of bad luck - but wethinks it’s fair to say that Tom hasn’t exactly made football his No. 1 priority since hooking up with the glamazon GF!

Cassel has not started a game since high school. Nonetheless, I will not write him off. The run game looked good. Can't wait till next week. It will be a true test for Belicheck now.
