Personal experience has shown me that in my home NJ waters, fishing sucks when the moon is big. Many of you know I frequent Rhody throughout the year, but always plan my trips around the new moon, or right before or right after it. Whaddaya think about the full moon phase, and what do you do different to catch fish during it?

The Full Moon, especially in the fall can mean great fishing. Hard-running tides make up for the extra light IMO. Just choose spots with deep water nearby.

I noticed the same thing in NJ too, but the predominantly shallow water on the beachfronts is what made the bass skittish on the full moon. I used to concentrate on deeper inlets on the full moon in NJ, and quite often some very big fish were more than willing to cooperate.

I stay home and whittle wood on the full moon.
