since the wife absconded the digital, i've only got
this to show for last night's festivities until she returns:

interestingly enuff, my glory hole ~~no mystery!

however, here's where i could borrow from sum of the wily veterans out there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

third cast, BIG TAKE w/ a live eeeeeeel,
i set the hook and i'm into a better than average fish ~~
for me anyways. i'm guessing around the high 30#'s.

after the second RUN she sounds and hunkers down very close to me.
so i put the boots to her a bit and she starts to move TO me.
i figure that it's early, but WTF, if she's ready,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i am also??

she goes straight for the ledge that's at my feet and bumps the hook
with her nose and, "POP, goes the gammi!!" ~eeeeel and everything else in tact.
mind you, i helped this one out by hooking the eeel a scoatsh too deep ~with not nearly enuff barb exposed~
and i tightened the drag prematurely, DADGUMMMITT :wall: :wall:

NOW, it's two casts and within 15 mins later, smaller take but sizeable, livelier eel (hooked right, this time) cast to within feet of the previous take and Fish AWWWN, again!! only this time, i land a nice 30#'er (43", weighed at GLCSTR, a belly full of bugs).

so here's my question for the resident sharp ONES.
which ONE of the following is more likely to have occurred, based upon yer years in the surf?:

a) the same striper puttin' on the feeeed bag
b) a smaller one of several yrmates all stacked up
c) am i imagining the "nose bump trick", because i've seen many 34"~ 36"+ stripers dislodge/attempt to dislodge hooks the same way for the past coupla years from Rhody to Cowhampshire, i think

any thoughts, gents? thanks in advance for your expertise!

Nice fish! I doubt it was the same one that rubbed out the hook. I'll be out tossing black sluggos tonight trying to at least match your accomplishment with the real thing. I'll be on the North side of CA. Did you get her in the wee hours on the dropping tide or closer to the top? Hoping the clouds creep back in and drown out that spotlight.

this happened to me in maine. fishing plugs, july 4th,hook a decent fish not huge 35" or so. fighting it the split ring straightened on me.lost the fish. about 10 fish later , mostly maine slot size fish, another decent fish on about a half hour later. land this fish 35" or so. my treble hook is in the bottom of the lip from the previous plug.also caught a 30# with a hook in the gut and line coming out of the mouth, also in maine ,same rocks . so they do hit again .

I read a scientific paper that suggested bass may not feed up to 2 days after being hooked. I'm sure it's possible that it's the same fish, but b) is probably what happened.

THANKS, gentlemen, for your input and congrats!!
GOOOO get 'em spin! YUP! wee, just past 1/2 way thru tha Drop.
how's the snook, bones, and tarpon Rob? Thanks Big E for the confirmation,
because losing the dominitrix inspires me to Hit that spot again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,only THIS TIME i'm brangin' pogies :uhuh: :uhuh:

good to know i'm not loosin' it on the nose bump trick, as well

i, also, was thinking b); yet,
this reminds me of a pod of reds
i got into on the Sanibel Causeway flats about 12 yrs ago,,,,,,,,,,

sunset, tailing reds, Johnson's Sprite 3/4 gold spoon.
tossing past the pod, leting it sink to the bottom, and
ripping it back at Autobahn speed,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,9 casts, 9 reds

i landed two schoolies twice and i could tell because their lips were still bleeding
on the same side where i had just taken the hook out!!!
went home with a nice one that night as the keepers just kept getting bigger,
until the last cast when the no-seeums swarmed me like i was the last piece of meat on earth :bl: :bl: :bl:

Its definitely possible that it was the same fish but not likely. I was fishing a couple weeks ago with a buddy and caught a fish that had a deformed jaw (very distinguishing) and about and hour and half later my buddy caught the exact same fish. Sometimes you just find a stupid one with a death wish. Most likely it was just another fish in the same size range.
