why do we put more pound leaders on!!! is this the breaking point because of the way a fish fights to get off and whats the proper way to set up a leader if i use 15# line with 30# leader will the 15 snap during a fight with a big fish how do i connect lines with swivel or line to line if you were going for 50lbers down the ditch what set up would be good thanks for replys!!!

The leader is more for protection from break-offs caused by rocks, gill plates etc. Your drag will keep the line from snapping during a powerful run. I connect the line and leader with a quality barrel swivel. I use 30# leader on the beach, 50# in the breachways.

As noted, the leader is heavier for protection from Gill Plates and the natural instinct of the fish to dive into the rocks to work the hook out, if it can.
The leader length is also important when fishing wire as in trolling. The shorter the leader the closer to the bottom the plug will ride due to the sinking of the wire. With a short, say 4 to 6 ft leader the plug/bait will be towed into the bottom. With a leader say 12 to 20 feet the plug/bait will fish higher off the bottom unless the fisherman adjusts the depth of the plug by bending the connection up or down to change the way the plug swims.
Always check your leader after every fish as you never know when bully bass will get its head to shaking just right to take a clip or two out of the leader or get down into or behind a rock enough to drag the leader into and across the barnicles and thus cut the leader.
Experiment, experiment and try different things and your success ratio will invcrease as you develop.
Good Fishing.
