View Full Version : Wow TheSpecialist 09-23-2008, 01:13 PM Not Cool..... http://wbztv.com/iteam/state.trooper.fishing.2.823298.html TheSpecialist 09-23-2008, 01:22 PM When are the news outlets gonna leave the blue collar working man alone??? JohnR 09-23-2008, 01:23 PM Ooops. Will hold comment until it all comes out but it ain't looking good. JohnR 09-23-2008, 01:25 PM When are the news outlets gonna leave the blue collar working man alone??? If these allegations are in fact true, then he is seriously abusing the system. Most of us have taken a sick day to fish, I've taken two (over 13+ years) myself, but not for profit at the cost of the taxpayer. The Dad Fisherman 09-23-2008, 01:43 PM I guess the big question is how many sick days does he get a year. If he gets a set amount of sick time per year I have no issue with it....but if he uses sick time that comes under "Supervisors Discretion" then this is REALLLY un-cool Mike P 09-23-2008, 03:58 PM As a state employee, let's just say that his sick time is generous. Probably more generous than mine, as I only have 20 months in with the Commonwealth. Terry has something like 17 years in. And my sick leave is far from stingy. I have a pretty good idea how this whole thing came about. It's really pathetic. To let petty jealousies put a man's livelihood, home and family in jeopardy.... I can assure you that the person who sent that anonymous letter isn't doing it as an outraged taxpayer. :( The irony is, if Terry worked a midnight to 7 shift, took a paid detail the next day, and banged in sick the following night, no one would care. Raven 09-23-2008, 04:10 PM its one thing to play hooky and get paid sick time quite another to run a business simultaneously and get paid for both. Mike P 09-23-2008, 05:34 PM its one thing to play hooky and get paid sick time quite another to run a business simultaneously and get paid for both. Nobody said he was calling in sick to take charters. A lot of State Troopers have side jobs. Some run construction businesses, landscaping, plumbing, stuff like that. The nature of the job is such that if you have seniority, you can arrange your shifts to be able to have a side job. I know of no rule that states that you can't have a second job on your days off. Even I can have a part time job as long as it doesn't involve practicing law--I could run a charter operation, work in a tackle shop, be a shore guide--you name it. The way the economy is going---I may have to before too long. The complaint is that he may have called in sick after doing one shift, running a charter, and then being too beat to report for his next one. Raven 09-23-2008, 05:39 PM ahhhhh i see........ said the blind man i stand corrected... thanks stripersnipr 09-23-2008, 06:10 PM They convienently neglected to mention how many of those thirty days out (over one and a half years) he spent laid up due to an injury received apprehending an armed robbery suspect during which time he was unable to work or fish. I now choose to smear channel 4 news every chance I get for the rest of my life. striperman36 09-23-2008, 06:37 PM must not be too many big dig abuses at the moment, and whitey is still out of town. I support Riptide and find this type of sensationalist journalism repulsive. What about seals? Aren't they causing more great whites to come around and eat wet-suited humans? PaulS 09-24-2008, 06:56 AM I hope it works out ok for him as he posts on the other site and seems like a nice guy. However, if the sick days he took are not PTO days, it appears it is a violation/abuse of the normal sick time rule. The only thing I question is if he's working the over night shift, how is he calling in sick for the day charters? - wouldn't he normally be off????? He was calling in sick for his next 12 x 7 shift, after the charter. fishbones 09-24-2008, 12:28 PM Amen, and very well said... Channel 4 should investigate the last time Bob Lobel drew a sober breath on air... ;).... "Enquiring" minds want to know.. Terry, hang in there... and it is a shame how often the knives come out, at all levels of fishing... Lobel was pushed out the door a few months back at channel 4. My understanding of state employees and sick time, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, is that if it's not used, it accrues. They are either going to take the time off or get paid for it. The state has already budgeted the sick time and the cost of replacing the employee. It's not hurting the Commonwealth if someone calls out sick. I think the state employees who are showing up for work and not doing anything are the ones who should be investigated. When he called in sick his position is not filled either, so no one gets paid O.T. to fill his spot, I doubt. I could be wrong. But they do get to save thier days from when they start until they retire or separate from service. Jenn 09-24-2008, 07:16 PM I am really not sure if I have an opinion on whether this is right or wrong considering the circumstances. I can tell you I would be pretty peesed if someone ratted me out for taking a sick day to go fishing or whatever.....not that I have EVER done that of course....:bounce: striperman36 09-24-2008, 08:19 PM howie carr's now on the bus too http://bostonherald.com/news/opinion/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1121077 dim wit journalist Swimmer 09-27-2008, 09:00 AM The only thing that bothers me it is a faceless/anonymous accusation. If this was private industry no one would investigate an anonymous charge like this. I'll bet the M.S.P. doesn't either. I'll bet the M.S.P. doesn't either. Terry hung himself with his reports regardless who ratted him out! As for all the "he works night" excuses, from what I've read he works the night shift 11:00 - 7:00, calls in sick then 7:01 he's magically feeling good enough to run a charter! :uhuh: I've met Terry a bunch of times and always thought he was a pretty good guy. (still do) But reading this tread on THT http://www.thehulltruth.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=202439&start=81 "I will kick your ass with a fishing rod, then without" NOT cool for someone who is supposed to be enforcing and upholding the law ! One thing is for sure, Terry was pretty well known in the fishing community, now he's known by just about everyone. Wonder if this will be good or bad for the charter business ??? Mike P 09-27-2008, 11:13 AM I'm not paying 30 clams to read that thread, Ronnie. Maybe you should copy and paste it ;) Terry does have a reputation as a hard-ass, even for a Trooper. Terry is a friend, also he reads this board. It's not fair to keep rehashing this stuff so they can do report #3 or something else because someone gave them links to some juicy fight online with a 20 year old kid. Yes I'm sure they've read all this too. He didn't do anything wrong and I'm asking you as his friend to just let it go no matter what your agenda or thoughts. We all have our suspicions who dropped the dime and this stuff just feeds this scumbag's satisfaction that he got what he wanted. I can guarantee that there are hundreds of people reading this board every day that called in sick to work at least once this year and they weren't sick. :wavey: vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
