Just got off the phone with my idol,Tim Coleman.

I gave him my gloomy report and he gave me his.Looks like the night time surf is devoid of large bass here in rhody.The daytime action is great but its all school bass.To make things worse,Tim onfirmed for me that long island is in the midst of a blitz the likes of which hasent happened there in a few years,With many cows and lots of big bunker all around long island.

Im afarid to say the bass are there and they normally dont turn and come back here until next june!! Connecticut is doing well also as you have seen from jeffs reports and tim has friends that are doing well in CT also.

I asked him what his overall assement was? He said that he thought 90percent of the big bass have passed us by already on the tails of those bunker which never swung in close to rhodys shoreline.He also though one still stands a chance at a cow here at night but,the odds are slim and it will all be the right place right time type of deal.

Block island does still have plenty of fish but, again,those bass wont swing in here.Looks like beating your brains out at night right now isnt worth the effort,in rhode island anyway.

I just may do some daytime stuff just to feel the rod bend but, I sure miss those cows of the last few years.This happens however and it looks like this year just isnt our turn for the cows.Im sure there are still some biggies that need to move past and someone somewhere will bump into them!! Overall the fall 2000 is poor and is one of the worst I have seen in rhode island waters.Sure the daytime stuff is there with the dinks but big fish are nill and sparce at the very best!!

Damn!!! I'm still going to give a try tonight and maybe tommorow night and see what happens. Maybe a little snottiness whill help tomorrow?? We'll see. ???

I don't want to give up just yet but things are looking pretty grim :'(

this "bassaholic" ain't given up just yet. I agree the fish that are in NY are not going to turn back north and bite our eels but it ain't over till just yet. This may be the real big shot of fish that moved south and blew us by tis year. There are generally several waves of fish and then a few stragglers on the onset of winter....but we did missed this wave of big fish that is for sure. I am rather upset given the level of effort I have put in this year. My wife is even giving me grief about it.."you didn't did you loose your touch did you? was a painful reminder of the lack of big fish this season.

Bad weather is coming, lets hope that chases some fish our way.

I dont think its time to pack it in but, the chances are rapidly going south,The migration definatly come off earlier than it once did.

Used to catch bass at block island into december.My friend got his 50lb bass there on december 1st at southwest point in 1985.Those days are gone,for now anyway.

I aggree there are a few mare schools of fish that may get pushed onto our shores,just make sure you are there when it comes! These fish arent hanging around! They are here one day and gone the next!! this time of year they are on the move! If they dont find the forage they want,they are outa here!!

I would say a better bet right now is the island and I would plant myself between old harbour point and cat rock cove!!

If we have heavy norwest winds,thats the spot to be,ditto for noreast!! The south side would be my second choice from snake hole west.Southwest point does not hold the fish it used too and that is because there is no where near the bait there used to be,the sand eels in the eighties were as big as pencils!!!

I hope that place gets back to what it once was!!

Joe flip and I had a night out there in the late fall once where we didnt catch anything UNDER 20LBS and most fish were in the high 30s,That was at dories cove,Little did we know that they had even bigger fish right down the beach at southwest that night!! We thought we did good,but they had loads of 40s plus there!! What a place that is!!

The island is however bait dependent and without that no fish!! you will just catch whats coming past.

You never even neede eels out there all you neede was a bag full of needlefish plugs and hold on!!!

Im going out there next week for two days and see what happens!! I have some friends there this weekend that are renting a house for the week at southwest (the round house for those of you that know it) I hope they call and tell me they are smokin them!!

So, drive down to New London, hop on the ferry and come across the Sound to where the fish are!!! A few weeks ago there was great action on some nice fish within spitting distance of the ferry dock in Orient Point.

We're having perhaps the best fall run since I moved here.

There could be a possibility that most of the large passed you by , but 90% Idon't know about that. I'll have to agree we can't toss an eel in RI and expect them to head back from LI to taste it. There's more fish out there. Remember the big ladys swim a little slower. If there's bait around what's their rush to leave?

I am not giving up just yet.
