is there a difference in using halliard locks vs glass rings? Silly noob question but I'm new to the whole outrigger thing.

glass rings will slide with heavy bars. you'll have to tie the rigger llines in place with rubber bands or something.
I would also use 400#mono over any braided rigger line.

I was thinking of using the mono. Halliard locks it is. When you attach the clips to the mono, do you tie a knot or crimp it?

If you plan to pull bars you want locks

John,
Definitely go with the haylock setup. Also 400 pound STRETCHED mono is what you want for the outrigger line. It is sold under outrigger main line. Glass works when only pulling small stuff but 3 and 4' 13 and 18" bars the glass wont work. As FF said the braided line stuff is $hit. When you crimp there is a special knot to use on the clips. I'll take a pic and it to you. Also buy blacks clips. By far the best and never fail. Rupps and aftco have failed in the past for me.

do you guys have a good place to buy all the stuff individually? I was thinking alltackle and west marine.

Depends where you are....Outfitters in Gloucester has all of that in stock, which is cool because you get to "check it out" before buying......

I always use 800-pound mono, not Jinkai. I want some diameter on the line to give me something to grab. Hallocks are nice, but you don't need them. I'm using Rupp double rollers ( I have the riggers double rigged). If I'm dragging something heavy and the halyards start to creep I just rubberband them together.
