I have an odd question....I've got a 12 gun metal gun case, non-fireproof. It has to sit downstairs as there is simply no room upstairs. I've been using the silica bags and just got a new "dehumidifier" that once wet, plugs in to recharge. It seems like I've got to do this quite often, though.

My question is does anyone use those GoldenRod dehumidifiers and if so, do they work alright? Just looking for another option so I don't get rust on the guns...too expensive for that!

Thanks!

Man I think I should check my safe. My uncle gave me the bags of dessicant, once they are used up you have to throw em in the micro to recharge them, but I have yet to use them. I wonder how you would get the wire through a safe for the ones that plug in?

Spec...

The wires are not connected to the plug or are easily disconnected....from what I've read/heard. I'm going to order one. I guess the more protection the better.

I've heard they work great but don't use one. I don't have any accesible holes in my safe other than the ones to bolt it down.
I use the bags and toss them when the circle turns pink.

Sounds like the area you have your safe is damp. I'd suggest a floor dehumidifier to help.

I have a goldenrod in my gun safe and it works great.. As for feeding the wire, I fed it though a hole in the leg channel but I have a large safe, with a smaller safe you may need to drill a small hole to feed the power cable. :kewl:

It's bad enough you're actually ISSUED a firearm......isn't that against your parole?

Sportsman,

Sorry for the late reply....been down & out for a while now. I picked up the golden rod and so far, it appears to be working fine. Keeps the case a little warmer and I now understand the method behind the madness. I've still got the silica thingy in there and noticed immediately that I'm not recharging it all the time now.

Mac...how've ya been??!!

It's in the basement so it's a little damp down there. No other place I can put it, though. I've got a floor dehumidifier as well but wanted something in the case as well....the more the merrier?!
