After doing some research and field testing many different knots for braid to breakaway clip connection. The clip is used for leaders that are pre-tied with fluoro or mono to 10#'s less than braid strength.Problem is 7 of 10 times the leader and the clip are gone. The leader I tie has a trilene knot at the swivel and hook end .I've done some reading on braid like mono actually cuts into itself making the breaking strength averaging 50% less than rated line strength. When the line is threaded into dacron then tied in a knot it retains close to 90% of it's strength from being insulated.I'm going to be testing this on my spinning setup.50# sufix threaded thru 80lb dacron tied to the breakway clip. This should result in greater main line strength and the leader should give out returning the mainline completely.Anybody have any experience with this?Trying to achieve maximum life from my main line and clips. Why re spool and retie knots when the truth is if you set your gear up right the first time it would last longer.I know if it snaps in the dark I'm not gonna be doing this.If all goes well I shouldn't have to.Just a re tie before every trip will probably be enough.Bored today obviously.I've found palomar and uni knots to work good for braid to clips but they don't always come back with broken leaders.I'd rather lose the hook end of the leader than loose breakaway clip another swivel and line.:cputin::lossinit::bl:

I use 20# Fireline, 75# swivel and 50 or 60 # leader. I think it breaks at the palomar Fireline to swivel connection. I don't seem to lose a lot of line. I've been happy with that.

I use the uni or the palomar to connect the braid to my terminal tackle of choice..I have mastered the holding of the loops in a uni an I can do it with my eyes closed and I have been using it more and more..Most times while jigging I get at least the swivel end of the leader back. With 30 lb fireline and a 40 lb leader..In fact I will have some extra clips on hand to just retie the clip to the shortened leader..I have tried the breakaway as a quick link leader changer thing on top of the leader.I have since stopped as I felt perhaps there might be some loss of feel at the working end of my rod..
Most knots will tighten down on themselves..I will use some glue when I get fancy on the braid knots to keep this from happening..
I have read that it works well But i could not honestly tell ya it does.In my head more is better..So I do it..

I fish 50lb Suffix Braid... and use 60lb Ande leader line... Uni-to-UNI knot connecting the two lines together... 4 loops with the ANDE and 7 with the braid... You will notice the knot of the ande is a bit larger than that of the braid... however, the strength between the two is unbeatable... I started using this system last season, instead of using a swivel to connect the two lines... from the leader I tie a Palomar knot to my Snap-Swivel, with is either a Rosco Coastlock or lately I have been using the breakaway SUPER easy to change plugs on the go.. however, I question the stability of them over used time.

Either case, try this knot combination

Braid to long leader - I bring it back to the reel, crazy alberto knot. No swivel needed - uni to breakaway clip. Check the leader for chafing and retie as necessary. I use a ande backcountry mono leader lighter than the braid to allow breakoffs in the ditch when hanging up.:fishslap:
With this set up the leader is actually 20 ft. to start with for a 10 /2 ft. rod. It allows many reties to the leader before I have to change the entire leader. The alberto knot is as strong as I have found if tied properly.:humpty:
