what do you do if you see a guy taking home a short fish? i did some dawn patrol this weekend and one morning some guy busted in about 10 yards beside me :af: . after a while he landed what clearly looked like short fish, 24 inches at the most. then he scoots up the shore, looks around, and speeds away. i wanted to run after him, but didn't. too bad the environmental police weren't there that morning. never there when you need em. typical.

so watch out on the north shore for a short guy taking short fish with fly fishing gear. :doh:

If the guy just took the fish and left, probably nothing you can really do. You can call DEM, but they’re not going to hunt the guy down. If you notice a pattern (he does it every day, or most days) definitely call DEM.

You could tell the guy that if he put down the sissy stick and fished like a real man, that he might actually catch a legal fish :hihi:.

Assuming that he wasn’t a big guy and that you though you could take him easily if it escalated, I would have said something to him.

As I get older I find myself getting a little more ballsy and able to say things to people I see doing the wrong thing. I say be as polite as possible and say, " Just making sure that you knew that a stiped bass needs to be 28"." and act as if you are trying to help him out. If he still decides to take it and you feel you can do it, tell him that you will call the police with his license plate number. Still might not work.

i witnessed it...definitely a short...first time i have seen that guy there...and if i seen him again, i will definitely say something to him...

If you see him again get his plate and let the environmental cops know he is poachbitch.

I had the impression that fly rodders were more ethical than that. It surprises me. I know there are bastards with all sorts of tackle but all the fly fisherman i know, actually all fisherman i know wouldn't do that.

There is a pier on the Saugus River in Lynn, that place is poach city.

Out of curiousity, what does one do if the short fish one just caught dies before release?
