After years of company Health Insurance I now have to shop around and get it for myself. Right now I'm using COBRA but I would like to find a group buy-in somewhere....anybody got any info on doing this.
Never had to do it before so its all new to me.

don't know if you are now self employed,if you are check out local chamber of commerce they have 2 or 3 group plan options depending on how many people involved.

OH boy will you be getting an eye opener Kevin. State of Ma says get health insurance...but 99% of these guys won't deal directly with you. You have to go to their designated group providers and pay THEIR rates which are BULL %$%$%$%$.
NBT seems to have the best rates, sbsb service just plain $ucks.
Can you reach your ankles easily? If not best start stretching.

Contact the Mass State dept. of Insurance and they will give you a list of companies writing individual/family coverage. If your healthy you might be able to do better rate wise in an indiv. underwritten policy than your cobra coverage. If you have health issue in your family, you'll prob. be better off not switching coverage.

Not Self-Employed, just working on a contract position for the next 6 months and need to keep the kids covered right now.
yeah, Scott I looked and the prices are downright scary....your talking $10,000 a year out of pocket for the lowest rated BCBS plan
But with kids its a necessary evil....

bcbs $ucks. TOTALLY unaffordable. Used to be you could deal direct with them but not anymore. They don't want to talk to you unless you got at least 6 employees.
$10k? Gimme the link I'll sign up in a minute cuz I'd save AT LEAST $5k signing up for that plan.
They will consider you self employed for all intents and purposes.
WAIT til January when Ma shoves this MANDATORY drug plan down everyone's throats. You'll choke on that one for sure. Between $150-200 more PER MONTH even if you don't use it. This state sucks and I can't wait til the day I'm out of here.
Your health level isn't taken into account for rates, it's what plan you pick directly.
This whole insurance thing is a SCAM. They base your rates on SIC business codes and then age. I know this first hand from past experience. The sic code determines the majority of what your going to pay.
