It got its name from sailors who knew that there was a fresh water pond behind those rocks, unlike most of the salt ponds along southern RI.. Granted, clear conditions like this don't happen too often, but when you get gin clear water, lots of overhead light and mix in a few game fish, I'm a happy diver...and I don't have to be in the Florida Keys!
