View Full Version : getting any?????
Slingah 10-21-2008, 01:54 PM Sandwich, canal, Hull, Scituate.....about 12 hours of fishing...1 dink to show for it....:tm:
I thinks it's all over...most likely for me anyway.....
Any notable recent catches? Please share...Im losing hope....it feels dead...and cold!
Back Beach 10-21-2008, 02:05 PM Not getting anything to speak of Matt. Its been slow for me.
In my spare time I'm posting responses to various threads declaring the fishing is over for large numbers of large fish...:laugha:
Give it a couple more outings, don't throw it in just yet...guys(not me) are still getting some decent single fish here and there.I'll be coming out of retirement a couple more times this year...

Thats all a scam; your trying to discourage anyone to free up rocks! :fishslap:

Actually I might come down your way next week. I haven't fished gansett since last year. Kinda miss it. Got a bunch of fish late season there in the past. Think it was the night after Halloween a couple years ago. You know where on the dropping tide.
RIROCKHOUND 10-21-2008, 02:14 PM Call me if you want company
Bronko 10-21-2008, 02:17 PM It was a dinkfest for me the other night in that 7 mile river to our south in the heavy wind. The small fish had invaded a hole I fish and were voracious. Just no size to the fish at all. Saw a guy cruise past under the light with a decent bass on his cruiser.
But, I think Backbeach is right. The majority of the bass have slid through already. You may find an isolated pocket of good fish that got delayed or hung up feeding on a good bait source on the way south, but you have to be there at the right place at the right time to intercept them.
I still have a couple trips in me before I hang it up. Probably one more ditch trip and a deep SoCo trip on the new moon.:walk:
Back Beach 10-21-2008, 02:17 PM ^ Will do. Thinking of mid week. Just need a NW wind and I'll be there.
Back Beach 10-21-2008, 02:29 PM A few years ago, the canal dried up about this time of year. After a week long lull, the place filled up with mackerel and fish for about one week. I think the last day I caught a fish was November 7, but it was slamzany on top for that whole week starting on Halloween. It was 20 smalls for every 20# fish though. Still a good way to end the year.
RIJIMMY 10-21-2008, 02:48 PM Mike, you need to turn your avatar into the grim reaper. you are on every site declaring its over!
Good reports, bad reports, whatever, I will keep fishing. I never catch squat when everyone is hammering them, why should I stop when no one is catching!

Besides;
you've seen it turn on in mid-November :cheers2:

I'm also wrong most of the time. :conf:
Case in point:
For every good outing I have there's countless skunks to balance things off. My predictive powers are minimal at best.:behead:
Remember, I'm not saying its over. I'm saying the best is likely behind us for numbers of bigguns.

numbskull 10-21-2008, 04:59 PM Most of the large may be gone, but the very largest come through last.
basswipe 10-21-2008, 05:03 PM SoCo was Hot today.
Nothing like building a house 500yrds from constant blitzing fish!
Striper_Haven_03 10-21-2008, 06:29 PM Got blanked the past few night/mornings. Although I lost a very large fish this morning in the rocks in the manomet/ellisville area around 6am.
I am not ready to call it yet, but close.
BigFish 10-21-2008, 06:31 PM I am gonna fish the slop tomorrow! I love fishing fall slop!:kewl:

In the Greek's book he calls them "late cruisers".
I remember just a few years ago there was a 60# fish taken in the canal right around halloween.
Stetzkos 73# fish was November 3, I believe.
ProfessorM 10-22-2008, 09:46 AM An old timer once told me this time of the year if you are willing to stand out on any of those rock jetties that dot the south cape from Chatham to Falmouth and freeze your you know what off you will be rewarded with a large fish but most get too cold and go too long without a bite to succeed in this endeavor.
Dad 818 10-22-2008, 10:08 AM Wife is out of state on business so I have the children and no time to fish.......................................
So NO on both accounts

That's funny.:laugha:
Both of my kids were conceived late oct/early november.....could be coincidence, but that's right around the time I stop fishing :hee:
BatesBCheatin 10-22-2008, 12:03 PM but if there were some fattys around this is what they would be stuffing themselves with.

Adam_777 10-22-2008, 05:43 PM There was some diving birds I saw today off the coast of RI.Wind wasn't working to my advantage it was too far from shore to cast.I was going to swim out but I didn't feel like getting wrinkly skin on my hands.I hate that.
Edge Sportfish 10-22-2008, 06:54 PM There's always Jupiter Matt! I'm deer hunting in South Texas and Missouri through the 20th of November and then it's game on.
Start looking at flights......

Moses 10-22-2008, 08:46 PM Canal was beautiful last night. No rain and the light show was amazing in the eastern sky. A buddy and I only saw two other red lights along the shore in our 5 hr adventure.
Fishing was decent too. You gotta get out and try and you should still be rewarded around these parts for another week.
ProfessorM 10-23-2008, 07:55 AM Yea mike I was at work and took a look outside and and thought it must be nice tonite, fishing. Last nite was a whole nother deal, miserable.
reelecstasy 10-23-2008, 08:58 AM Matt, I have hit "The spots" as well same deal, a few dinks nuttin else...Time for a ride
bloocrab 10-23-2008, 11:08 AM Me & another S-B'er went out last night tossing plugs.......
Not a single bump, .........
Plenty of phospherous in the water though ;).....
Pretty cool watching your partner light up the ocean floor with every step he takes....
Not a single bump..................
Nice stiff breeze keeping it real.................real cold that is.
Not a single bump......................
A LOT of times, it's not the color of your plug NOR is it the style of your plug.......sometimes the fish are there, but want nothing to do with wood, leads, rubbers, tins or plastics.
We tossed quite the variety of artificials with nothing to show for it.
However, the "phosperous" that could have also contributed to our presentation(s) getting the wrong type of attention.....also showed proof to the fish BEING there as I would see them dash from time to time while I waded into new areas. Now there's a sight that'll spook ya........then pissz ya off when they won't hit a dahm thing. Had a couple follow the plug in...but pull a U-turn at my feet without touching it....all under the cover of complete darkness, cept for the underwater light show, nothing like seeing the "ghost" of a fish follow your offering then turn around without the slightest tap.....If it wasn't for the phosperous, I'd a said the fish weren't there at all.
Perhaps I should have brought some eels ?? :lossinit:
ThrowingTimber 10-23-2008, 12:35 PM light trace of fire in the water last night. Bigger bait around looking like sea/herring jammed into the nooks and crannies. Decent night didnt set the world on fire but we had a steady pick of smaller fish 8-15lbs or so and 12lb blues for about 5-6 hrs. Comfortable 45 degrees at the water and 42 on the road home. And I didnt cry or wet myself because the reel handle on my vs got cold... :hihi:
fished artificials: black and purple long island fish in vermont darter was unstoppable last night. Picked up some bass on a pikie I had made as well. They def. wanted the darker colors. back out again.. good luck out there everyone..
reelecstasy 10-23-2008, 12:50 PM good luck out there everyone..
and don't forget your mittens!
