What is the working time of laminating resin?{max time to recoat}

Can i lay up a piece then put it outside for a week and recoat it without sanding?

Also, will it ever harden? can I use laminating resin as the finished product? or does it have to be finished off with a finish resin?

Laminating resin should stay tacky even when fully cured, it is not for use as a finished product ( unless you're making flypaper). You'll need to finish the piece with "regular" resin.

is this polyester resin or epoxy resin

The cure times vary depending on brand, some have fast set, medium and slow hardners


I would never wait more that 12 to 20 hours to recoat without sanding between coats.

I guess you must mean polyester resin then. That is nasty stuff Mike, all kinds on dangerous solvents in it, takes your breathe away if you don't have a tight fitting mask with the correct filters.

Epoxy resin is more money but I think it makes a world of difference for the do it yourselfer.

I was wondering for the stringers layup. I don't want the bilge to remain tacky forever.
I guess if it's dry enough to sand it I'll just sand it. and use finishing resin on parts I know wont need a second application.

If its true laminating resin you can sand to your heart's content and it will still be tacky. Its made to stay tacky so you can make a laminate (duh!) and has to be finished off with a final coat of resin. If I were you I would use an aerobic cure resin to fisnish and skip the wax part.
