View Full Version : Season's best.
Circlehook 10-30-2008, 07:47 PM Let's share the best from this season, whether it is a pic, or a story, or a failure, let's share it.
I'll put some pictures up tommorow, once I weed through them.
I caught a couple personal bests this year, put in a ton of time, and learned some new places. My best trip of the year was an august morning in Wellfleet all by myself on Marconi beach, I found a pod of large and was pretty close to heaven as the sun rose.

(though it is close :tooth: )
bassballer 10-31-2008, 08:16 AM Not my best fish but by far my best fishing experience of the year was my first trip out to cuttyhunk. Lets just say ive already booked 2 more for next year. The history, and georgeous views is why I love living in new england. Just walking the island and scouting spots was just as much fun as the actuall fishing. Place is just epic. Didnt catch my trophy but some decent fish were caught.

Back Beach 10-31-2008, 08:20 AM Just got these pics yesteday and remembered what a blast the freshwater fishing was this year. Fished a 50 acre kettle pond I grew up on and hadn't fished it in 15 years. Things hadn't changed at all. For about four weeks this past spring (mid april to mid may) we had superb fishing on both smallmouth and largemouth bass. Some days we had over 40 fish between TO and I. Got a ton of smallies on the fly and plenty of largemouths. Gin clear water, light line, tin of skoal, and a couple sandwiches. Was as enjoyable as any striper trip I made all season. Best thing about it was complete silence and not another soul in sight most days, save for a couple kayakers.
great pics Mike. one of my favorite memories from this year was also freshwater fishing with TO for carp. man what a blast that was, and friggin hilarious at the same time.
this year i only fished the salt a fraction of what i normally do, but my most memorable day was when i got that call from you and we banged those fish on top. i can still hear the sound of that one fish crushing my pencil...
another great memory was back in Sept when Chef and I went out to a spot on a whim and banged fish for 3hrs straight. i think chef outfished me 2:1 or even more, but i was psyched he had a night like that considering all the time he had put in this year. all 15-25lb fish with a low 30s(caught by chef). we ran out of eels and left the fish biting...
FishermanTim 10-31-2008, 10:35 AM This year was hampened due to knee issues, part of which has been resolved. I did fish, but only a fraction compared to prior years.
I did manage to do some fishing at 2 of my regular spots. Duxbury did turn out as good as I had hoped, but walking the Powderpoint Bridge was a killer. The canal turned out to be my salvation. I fished the week before I had knee surgery (9/22) and was in cow heaven in the ditch. I took off 2/3 of October and was able to work in a few canal trips for both low and high tides, and managed my season's best on Columbus day: 45" fattie. I am not "hanging it up" yet as there are still fish around, and I still have some vacation days left.:bshake:

LOL! That was a fun day. Big slimey mofo's... And the fish are slimey too.
Brian L 11-01-2008, 05:59 PM I lost my 11 year old Border Collie this week(Tuesday AM) to what we think was an internal organ problem. She's been a super close companion with an almost human sensitivity and incredible personality/intelligence. Roxie stayed with me unconditionally through thick and thin since she was a pup. I've been a wreck all week missing an amazing dog.
Silver lining is that the last thing we got to do together was our favorite, fishing at the reservoir. She jumped in the truck with me on Monday night and we walked through the woods together down to our favorite spot.(the same spot where those big ugly carp were caught!) I was in waders, and she happily followed me all afternoon, in and out of the mud, water, wooded paths, and beaver dams. Got to get wet and muddy together and catch some fish. She was in her glory, and made me smile all day. I Didn't realize how special that time was until I found her in our living room early the next morning and she was gone. It was a perfect afternoon and I'm thankful that it was the last thing we got to do together.
sucks man. sorry to hear that.....
