Tommy Heinson was just talking about how Rondo does not focus on layups in practice and how he needs to work on his layups as he just tosses them up there and "HOPES" that they drop instead of concentrating and making them fall while drawing the foul! This is Rondo's biggest deficiency!

I have not watched much this year but I would guess the reason why Rondo does not practice his layups is because he has no jumper. I would rather see him stick to working on the jumper. The layups will come just from the game play as the season progresses.

He had the same issue all last season Mike and he could score alot more points if he honed his layup skills! Its the most rudimentary part of the game, the most basic skill!! He needs to improve there because it is his job to work the lane driving to the hoop, draw the foul and score the bucket in the process!

I agree that he needs to make those shots but if he's not a threat as a jump shooter they the opposing team's point guard can continue to double Garnett, Pierce, and Allen. He just needs to step up his shooting game. It sounds like he is missing gimme buckets but I think those will start to fall. He's probably just a screwed up in the head. Maybe he is not getting enough #ss or he's getting too much who knows.

i think its a combination of factors. like luds said, he doesn't have confidence in his jumper so he never really gets into a rhythm. but notice if there's 2 sec left on the clock, he doesn't hesitate and buries the jumper. I just think he thinks too much and doesn't really know where he fits into the offense.

as far as the lay ups go, he needs to make them because everyone in the league is willing to let him get to the rim because they are looking for him to dish. he used to take it to the hoop strong before, but he got blocked most of the time and i think this deterred him from going inside. i think once he learns to use his body better to protect the ball and he gains more confidence in his offensive game, he will be an outstanding player. he already has all the tools in place.

and lets not forget, just a cpl nights ago Tommy was saying how Rondo could be a hall of fame player some day. he might have had a little too much to drink that night, but i agree with most things Tommy says as i feel that I have learned more about the game through listening to him over the years than I have from anywhere else...
