Anyone get to watch the shuttle lift off last night? I've seen this a bunch of times live on NASA TV and it never ceases to make me awe in the power of those solid rocket boosters.

Way cool to sit there and tell the kids about what's going to happen so they know what they're watching. My little one I think got a new appreciation for it after seeing one in person 2 years ago. He remembers it well. Awesome! :uhuh:

The launch was once described to me as a controlled nuclear explosion. Amazing and truly awesome sight even if only on TV. The Space Center is a must for the bucket list. Better than Disney by far.

and the picture was much better than on TV and without those jerk commentators spoiling the mission control dialog ...

I was on a flight to Miami a while back and we were detoured around the flightr pad area. The pilot gave us a heads up and we were able to watch the takeoff and flight from the air. The pad lights up bright white with the rocket taking off from the center of it and looks like a giant building slowly lifting off and then it streakes up into the atmosphere. Awsome sight and our aircraft was able to witness the entire liftoff from the air.

A little while ago I was at a meeting at Sea Ray boats down on Merrit Island just south of the launch pad. The entire company broke 10 min before launch and went outside to watch...it was pretty cool.

Depending on the launch trajectory, it is possible to see the shuttle from RI as it's going up during a night launch. I was able to do this a year or two ago. Looks like a satelite that's cutting in a wierd direction.

My father was fortunate to see many launches from Red Sector A before he retired.

Spence there was one about 2 years ago I think that we saw up here I don't remember exactly when
