JohnR

why do you think it's called the warthog.

Because it's a slow, lumbering beast that will gorge about anything in it's way?

Have you hugged your depleted uranium today :D ?

Someday I'll learn to post pics, but this guy was the last resort for the Destroyer I was on:
MK 15 Phalanx Close-In Weapons System (CIWS)

3,000 rounds a minute. Man was that thing loud.

I don't hunt, so I don't know the dates for hunting, but if it's legal there are tons of wild turkey's down at Myles Standish State Forest. I saw some other game birds walking around, but it coulda been a chicken for all I know.

About 2/3rds of the way down the "Reply" page, below "Smilies" & "Options", you'll see "Attach File" and to the right of that a box to browse. Click on browse, navigate thru you hard drive to the picture you want, it open - and it will upload the image for you...

Yes - I'd like to see a good pic of a close in weapons system... BTW - how many were installed on your boat? The Navy was pretty cheap with them on earlier ones. Sure they're great, but only 2 on an earlier guided missle destroyer?

They were only last resort ( I don't think the range is to good), plus if it's a missle or plane coming at the boat, we would have 99 surface to air missles, 8 harpoons, 6 torpedos, a 5" gun, then there was chaffe to send up to make the incoming radar think it's reached its target. (Thanks for the tip John, the picture is there, but I've got plenty of work to do)

Sure, on your boat you had SMII+ missiles, the gun, and all that stuff but what about an early pre-VLS Spruance? 8 Sea sparrows (plus reloads), backed up by the CIWS. Think you would be a little less comfortable?

I do some naval computer gaming (well used to) and it amazes me how much the AB would kick the Spruance's (pre-VLS) ass even though it's less than 20 years older.
