Looks like all it would take is a file or dremel to make a groove around the plug. I see a few plug makers are selling eel skin plugs. Doesnt look like there is any trick to it. What would be the best sealer to use on the groove?

no need for a groove.. just use a zip tie and tighten the crap out of it..

Don't waste a danny. An old styrofoam Atom Jr is cheaper and will swim better (bigger lip). I do file a groove, find it easier than sewing around the lip. I like twisted 30lb trolling wire to tie the skin on. If you want a big plug, the plastic A40 is the way to go.

numbskull is right
Danny never was my favorite for skins although it does have its time and place
Old plastic A40 and bm junior for specific conditions are my go to

How does an A40 float? Half out of the water or 1/4 out?

I have both bm danny and atom jr. with skins I also like using a groove and use dental floss and decron to tie them down I only sealed one of them w/ a rod building epoxy as that was all I had on hand.I don't think I needed to seal it as my atom never resealed has not shown signs of water log.I like using the atom more often yet I like the danny too (at lest before losing it on my trip to cutty).
