Pretty much most of the bands from the mid to late 80's were one hit wonders. Off the top of my head I can remember:

Survivor
Men at Work
Tone Loc
The Bangles
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Quiet Riot
Bananarama
Men Without Hats

The Dad Fisherman

The Knack
Billy Squier
The Vapors
Bow Wow Wow
Crash Test Dummies
4 Non Blondes
The Spin Doctors
Spacehog
Presidents of the United States of America
The Refreshments

This was the ultimate hookup song of the 80's, all you had to do was grab the closest girl and start dancing with her....

THE classic one-hit wonder, from the 70s--Norman Greenbaum and "Spirit in the Sky" ;)

There was also The Looking Glass with "Venus", and whoever it was that did "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)".

:as: Lee Michaels- "Do Ya Know What I Mean?" Saw him with play it with just a drummer and a Hammond in the early 70's at the Loew's State Theater in Prov. Still hear it almost every day on Cool 102:pop::cheers:

How about Matthew Wilder? Can anyone name the hit song he had in the late 80's?

I've got my 20th HS reunion tomorrow night and they're supposed to be playing music that was popular while we were in HS. I should have a bunch of good one hit wonders on Saturday if I can remember anything.

Oh, the Silver Platters. I forgot all about them. So much promise. I heard they broke up because three of the band members were having an affair and it didn't sit well with the other three. I also heard that their manager, some guy named Oliver was swindling them out of all their money.

Heck, there aren't many today that are nothing BUT "one-hit wonders", though they seem more like "no hit wonders".
Of course when you saturate the market with one particular genre of music (rap and currently the "Disney graduating class") you get too much sh*te and not enough shine-ola.
Unless you can produce (or in current conditions RE-produce) more than one hit album, you're just a flash-in-the-pan.
Do you think that given enough time and so-called talent, that the rap industry will eventually run out of catchy rap-artist names?
No, they are NOT singers. Hell, I could recite the ingredients off of a box of Cheerios and call it rap.

Karl I still listen to Devo on my ipod ,, They have a great version of "Working in a Coal Mine" another good one ,, "You got me Jerkin Back and Forth" ... "Through being Cool" .. pretty unique sound really ... Tough to get taken seriously with a flower pot on your head .
