Crafty Angler 12-02-2008, 06:34 AM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbWxdncbeOo Tautog01, where the hell didja find that one? I had no idea you were so musically inclined, I thought you spent most of your time mutilating green crabs...:hihi: Hey, I saw Hendrix and the Experience at the old RI Auditorium in the Spring of '69. It was awesome - and actually this is one of those "no s**t, this really happened" stories - the Auditorium caught fire, the crowd panicked and rushed for the exits while he was on. Jimi was in the middle of 'Purple Haze' and just kept playing - my date freaked grabbed my hand and bolted for the doors and all of a sudden I had visions of Cocoanut Grove - yanked her back and wouldn't let go, went to the vacant front row seats and watched him finish. Hey, you know, ya try to tell kids that today and they'll say 'Don't believe ya, don't believe ya'...:hihi: tautog 12-02-2008, 09:29 AM Great story Sad to hear that the last member of the JH Experience died recently. Mitch Mitchell was a great drummer. Like RIRockhound said my posts wil go up with this forum. Hope the little lady is feeling better RIROCKHOUND 12-02-2008, 10:55 AM A couple I listened to on my commute last night... From a Hendrix tribute 'Stone Free' I dug out of my CD collection... Skip ahead about 1min on this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obWsO1aIMYA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO6tNfAilJs Hendrix 'Jazz?' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1TxITOCBbE Crafty Angler 12-02-2008, 11:58 AM Thanks tautog01, the missus seems to be a whole lot better today - she's been chasing me all over the house since 6 AM nipping at my heels the whole time - yup, she baaack.... :hihi: Ya know, I'm glad she is too - the kid scared the hell outta me. All it takes is a good health crisis to put everything in perspective for ya - man...:hs: Can't believe MM pooped the bed too - that's really a shame. Great drummer - Anyhow...this one is really not obscure, but one of the all-time great covers - I'll swear Stevie Ray was channeling Jimi on this one. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4046853858982365435 ProfessorM 12-02-2008, 01:38 PM My favorite version of all along the watchtower. It was D.M. that convinced Hendrix to record the song as they were buddies in England at the time and hanging at the studio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjzbX4vjXhA ProfessorM 12-02-2008, 01:48 PM The king of the SG. I've seen Living Colour 15 times live. My old band was heavily influence by them. I actually got into jazz 15 years ago from Vernon reid.QUOTE] Just because I'm a left leaning liberal doesn't mean I don't have good taste in music... when I'm not listening to NPR/BBC at work, I have Pandora playing tunes in the background all day. I put LC in one of the posts about bands who should be/have been more popular... I grew up in a house full of blues, Dead and Rock n Roll, ... that's why I said Tautog01's posts will go up once he found this forum, he pays as much attention to music as blackfishing... (Tautog01 = RIRockhound Sr.) Slingah 12-02-2008, 04:29 PM I have that Hendrix tribute disc too....some great songs on it...some just okay...thanks for reminding me bout it..I'll put it back in rotation!! The tune is obscure to begin with . This is a fairly decent rendition. Also never mind the video as this is the only tune I can find on u tube. Peggy's is much better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8gLU9p7vsA boot man 01-16-2009, 07:27 PM I love obscure covers Amie - Counting Crows Gin N Juice - The Gourds (country cover of a Snoop Dogg song, hilarious!!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SunrKwykK_Y ProfessorM 01-16-2009, 07:43 PM two giants, masters of the guitar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMrv9aXOCnA&feature=rec-HM-r2 ProfessorM 01-16-2009, 08:22 PM another that pop up on my IPOD. It was D.M. that convinced Hendrix to record the song as they were buddies in England at the time and hanging at the studio. Here is an obscure yet cool version of Watchtower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZvQf9et8QQ# Sound quality is mediocre but overall, great jam Funny I get into those modes once in a while too. this one is almost theraputic for me sometimes. neil still does this one best. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCiLCo-LoUg&feature=PlayList&p=325E77D12EF6E73B&index=0&playnext=1 I first heard this one a few weeks back, I think Luds posted it - truly awesome rendition, and now a favorite.... Mike P 01-24-2009, 08:32 PM Genya Ravan of 10 Wheel Drive semi-fame ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02QkPjT293o Tagger 01-25-2009, 10:42 AM My Name is Larry .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnHHk9z8iGE Tagger 01-25-2009, 10:47 AM agree with Kevin ... but gotta be Sir Mix a Lot ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fsgi7YNXic8 Crafty Angler 01-25-2009, 11:17 AM How about Zappa doing the Allmans - the Professa oughta like this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPm8hLTcBPQ Crafty Angler 01-25-2009, 11:29 AM Well, this I would guess is a REAL obscure version of 'Whipping Post' performed by a young Emily Elbert... I think Dad may have taped her performance at home - although I gotta admit her voice and style reminds me a lot of Ellen McIlwaine - And who in the hell, you may ask, is Ellen McIlwaine? Another very good bluesy/folksy type in Uncle Crafty's pile 'o' vinyl...:hihi: I probably shouldn't make jokes about this young lady - she may be a Grammy winner one day - her phrasing is actually pretty good for a kid. Hey, you wanted obscure, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAv6fwsBx4s Crafty Angler 01-25-2009, 11:46 AM Uhhh... saw a couple more of Emily's tunes - I think it may be a while before she shows up as a Grammy nominee - hey, hang in there kid... Another version of Whipping Post by Lina Koutrakis... And who is Lina Koutrakis? Damned if I know, but here she is performing at BB King's Blues Cafe - So, can a Greek girl really sing the blues? I dunno, the jury may still be deliberating on that one - although when she starts wailing at about 4 minutes into it she does sorta remind me of a coupla Greek women I've known... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AQSFh46uMw Brian L 01-25-2009, 01:12 PM Warren Zevon and a few of the guys from R.E.M. formed a band called "Hindu Love Gods" a few years ago. Kind of became my nickname for a while. My name is Larry Zappa also did lots of Beatles tunes too ,but with more risqué lyrics as I would expect. Like lucy in the sky with diamonds became Louisana hooker with herpes. Brian L 01-25-2009, 02:42 PM Well, this I would guess is a REAL obscure version of 'Whipping Post' performed by a young Emily Elbert... I think Dad may have taped her performance at home - although I gotta admit her voice and style reminds me a lot of Ellen McIlwaine - And who in the hell, you may ask, is Ellen McIlwaine? Hey, you wanted obscure, right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAv6fwsBx4s AMAZING! ProfessorM 01-25-2009, 03:01 PM This is off Greg's newest album. Give it a listen as i think he may be one of the best players out there now. He is not just loud and fast he has substance and knowledge plus all the chops to challenge anyone at any style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASOmXVco3CY Pete_G 01-25-2009, 08:20 PM A nice take by Gnarls Barkley of Reckoner by Radiohead. My favorite Radiohead cover I've ever heard by far. Not that there's a lot of them but usually when you do hear one it's a spectacular crash and burn such Panic at the Disco's Karma Police cover. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8R42ZU10Ko ProfessorM 05-22-2009, 07:38 PM here's one:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obMvFUdtNew&feature=related Katie 05-22-2009, 09:42 PM Classic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FzouEpuqPM rphud 05-22-2009, 10:34 PM Seu Jorge covers Bowie in Portugese http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pnkf-9sqEuc&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvhGvxuOREw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6l8zrsf4LY&feature=related rphud 05-22-2009, 10:35 PM Forgot one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kvx_w79wbrE&feature=related been into Bossa Nova lately vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
