I'm looking to get the wife a portable auto gps for a Christmas gift. I have been looking at the Garmin nuvi's.
What do have??... and looking for input on features, screen size and price...pros, cons etc...
thanks in advance..

one thing i've noticed is they say your there
when the location can still be across the street....
so, you still have to use your eyes at the very end of journey.

ditto! on the memory because they can be used to find
anything from restaurant's to grocery stores.

I bought my wife the Garmin C550 and she loves it. It's bluetooth enabled, and has a card slot for mp3's pictures, etc... She also likes that it gives spoken street names and has a lot of points of interest pre-loaded. Pros are what's mentioned above, along with the simplicity of routing to your destination. I haven't come across any cons with the Garmin yet.

The Garmin Nuvi's have great reviews as well, and they're smaller (thinner) than the Streetpilot models. Right now there are some great deals on the Nuvi's. It might also be good to look for a model with the real time traffic reports already loaded. I hear it's a grea tfeature on the Nuvis.

I have a Mio GPS and it has great features, but is definitely not nearly as user friendly as the Garmins. I bought the Mio for my wife and she didn't like all the steps it took to route to her destination. It almost has too many features and options for someone who's not a techie.

Matt,
I bought a Garmin Nuvi 760 a 4.3" touch screen it gives you the option to up load Jpegs,Mp3s and maps.MP3s play over the radio (or any stereo)from a built in FM transmitter:humpty:
It came with a built in FM reciver wich allows for up to date"real time" traffic info.touch the screen and it shows troubled areas and opts for Avoidance routes:humpty:price wasn't to hard on the wallet

The memory info is key just type in a town then browes whatcha looking for not only will it give you the addy but phone# as well,so for dinner res. you can call ahead or use it for movie listings this is a pretty helpful tool as well.
So you can type in a town and you can look for Bait stores....Pretty cool Huh!

I have the Garmin 200 and I like it alot, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some mentioned but ity just $129 at Wallfart right now.

I had a 200 I broke before, and I got a TomTom and hated it! Just did not say the stuff like the garmin so I returned it for another Garmin.

Slingah,

Candi's got the tom tom and its awesome can synch it on the pc easy to use etc. Just dont leave it plugged into the usb port on your pc for extended amounts of time unused. Aside from that works great. The silent one has the garmin and its pretty easy to use and has that night driving feature thats helpful.
