I was looking out window and decide to take a few pics as it look so nice out. Soon the snow will be all dirty and brown. Nothing is prettier than a fresh snowfall.

G liked the snow... -spence ProfessorM 12-21-2008, 05:33 PM Hey Dave. I had one a few weeks ago I posted a pic in the birdwatching post. I think we are a little to far north for them to hang all winter. I will say this though they head up this way a lot earlier than most people think. You need to have the boxes cleaned out and ready very early in spring to attract a male. If there is anything left in the box it will move on. I have had them raise 2 sets of babes in one summer. I cleaned out the old nest and he was back with another mate a few days later. It is all about the female. They decide if they want that box or not. Just like humans:). One year I had several look but they were all just tire kickers. I had none stay last year but I did see 2 check it out. Bronko 12-21-2008, 09:16 PM Great pics guys. Paul, ditto on the lobster buoys, great pic. The Dad Fisherman 12-22-2008, 09:03 AM iw as just saying the other night its a shame snow is such a pain in the ass......because everything does look awesome covered in it. Crafty Angler 12-22-2008, 09:29 AM Real nice pix, you guys...:kewl: I was smart enough to shovel and salt it while it was still wet Friday nite at 10:30 - certainly added to my enjoyment of the scene Saturday morning. The people up the street who let it freeze? Probably not so much...:hihi: ProfessorM 12-22-2008, 11:55 AM Oh..the Irony, of a Hawaii license plate, covered in snow, tucked amongst those buoys... Yes the irony. It is my birthplace and today I wish I was there. tynan19 12-22-2008, 01:20 PM Nice Pics Guys! justplugit 12-22-2008, 06:17 PM Hey Dave. From what i read your chances are better if you have 2 or 3 spaced 30-50ft apart facing NE near a hedge row overlooking an open field. Forget how high we set them, think it was 6ft from the ground, maybe 7? They came the first year and picked the one in the corner of the property near a small tree and the other near the hedgerow. So far they have come back and chosen the same 2 boxes about 50 ft apart. Mr. Clammer. Looks cold Yes Dave they prefer open space in front of box and they are territorial too so a good distance apart will help. My favorite bird to watch.
