I am now the proud owner of a Bridgeport Series one J head, Full collet set, DRO, misc end mills ect. I apprenticed as a machinist and welder fabricator but ended up putting more time into what i do now, trucks and diesels.

long story short I havent run one of these in 15 years, an im wondering if anyone knows of some good books that will help me get back into it, in my spare time.

Well I can say I have been standing in front of one of those for 30 years so I guess I qualify. I have no books for you but where do you live. If close I could give you a refresher course some weekend. I wish I had the room for one in the cellar, but got the next best thing, free use whenever I need it. Paul

Im, in yarmouth, and I don't have it fully set up yet maby in a week or two, Ive got to run power to it. It is decent for $800, I dial indicated the bed and it's whithin .0013 all points, The DRO works, next when it's set up Im gonna dig thru my old stuff from back when and see if I can find a Servo drive for the table, I think ive got one thae Woods Hole MBL sh-canned NIB. I t came with a milk crate full of goodies too, like the right angle to convert it to a horizontal mill. The only thing im looking for is a Horizontal/Vertical rotating table and tailstock, Ill be set.:bounce:

I work in Pocasset. Got lots of friends who work at WHOI shop. A meet up should be no problem. Got to go.
