Anyone have a winter fishing trip planned, or thinking of it?

What do you have on your Summer 2009 schedule for fishing events?

Personally, I would like to look into some tarpon fishing sometime, probably not this year though.

Going to do a Cuttyhunk trip in June, undecided on fall trip between MV Derby, Cutty, or Block.

I'm headed to the Keys in mid March, hope to book a guided trip, if not I will drive myself nuts trying to catch something other than pinfish on my own. As always my group will be on the Block sometime in Oct.

going to San Fran in April for my sisters wedding so I'll see what can be caught out there at that time, I'm getting married in August and looks like we'll be going to either the Block or Vineyard for a honeymoon so I'll get some fishing in then, other than that, just my normal spots and some boat days

Son #1 is approaching manhood. At four years old, he's indicated a willingness to join his dad in pursuit of all things finned and slimy this coming season.Soooooo, I'm considering purchasing a 14-16' boat for freshwater exploits this summer. Of course this will be followed by bigger and better in the coming years, Right?
Stay tuned as his mother is eagerly anticipating our "diamond" anniversary next year. What should I tell her? What would you do?:spin:

DF,

I knew something was fishy here when my wife indicated our "diamond" anniversary was near. The nerve of some women...she just doesn't want me to get the boat:huh: :laugha:

I'm still donning waders after work chasing bass around metro boston. It's getting cold and the bite is slowing down. Starting the year with a lay off with about 10 other Plumbers....not a good thing...but the bright side is....a warm destination with hopefully a kayak rental will be in the works.

Wishing everyone a happy new year and new personal bests in Twenty Nine.

hey nf,

don't know yer availability to head S for the silversiders;
however, the BEST time for trophy tarpon is during their
spawn in Boca Grande Pass. see BGrande area for charters~~

Useppa Island is amazing and in the heart of it all,
the capt we chartered outta there put us on a dbl header,
me and my bro, and into the middle of a huge BLITZ of

sum lahhhge tarpon, great fight, and the mayhem that surrounds
THAT time of year and THAT place for tarpon is magnificent,,,,,,,,,,,

hope this helps,,,,,,,,,,it's been twenty five years since i boated the one i caught~~
so, i am sure the names have changed since then.
sumthin' i'll NEVER forget and well worth every penny!!

I am negotiating with Da Wife for a quick weekend trip to FL before seminars season starts in few weeks. I doubt it will happen thou.
I'd like to do two or three Cutty trips, block island is next on my itinerary although I might take a wife to MV in summer. It depends if we end up going home to Europe in which case after a month of two there, i'll be too broke to buy a plug ,never mind plan a trip
I have to hook up and fish with Pat Abate this year . I fished with him in Montauk but I'd like to do it in CT.
Steve McKenna is another as its PeteG and most of RI crew.
I am doing a talk at mass-bass meeting in May so hopefully I'll find someone to fish with in the are afterwards. Never fished the canal and that sounds like so much fun.
Maybe this will be the year where I finally hook up with Michael Hogan from Hogy lures and we finally get to plug the Elizabeth islands from the boat.
Would be nice if notorious NIB would give me a buzz when everyone and their mother is catching cows from NJ surf....hey a man can dream ,right ?:laugha:
With 3 friends I have a little cottage booked in Montauk for 6 weeks starting in mid September and going through November,we had this for years. Last year I slept there once, this year ,I did not sleep there at all. I found better quality close to home so I kind of made a decision not to run there. You really could not find better action anywhere, the place had a daily blitzes for something like 45 straight days starting in last days of August. Considering I am starting my guiding this year I expect to spend a lot of time at Montauk this fall. The place is "the surfcasting capital of the world", the sign that greets you as you enter the park says so, but I would rather be at Cutty most of the time.:bshake:
A trip to Maine in summer is a possibility, there are some good friends I'd like to see.
Along the way I'd like to meet new people, see many old-friends and most of all, see new places.
This is my wish list, what will actually happen ,who knows..........

I'd love to hit SW Florida this Spring, but don't see it in the cards financially just yet - but never say never, I guess.

I have cousins down in Cape Coral and I've fished that whole Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island Sound and Estero area - it's a great fishery.

A friend of mine also just bought a house in Naples a few months ago, guess there are some great deals to be had on the Repo Riviera right now.

Of course, he won't be heading down there for a while - he's going to Costa Rica for a coupla weeks the middle of this month.

I don't know whether to :crying: or just fish-slap him when he gets back...:fishslap:

I would like to take the Crazy One up on his offer to fish Montauk with him in the Fall - that would be a great trip, haven't been there since I surfed the Hamptons, Ditch Plains and Shinnecock Inlet in the '60's.

It's probably changed a little since then...:rollem:

Ya think?

Wow thats some wish list..You can pencil me in for most of also.
I would like to go back to the mother country wit ya.Just to listen to all the broken accents.:tm:
Never been to the Vineyard,or Cutty..
If your up in mass in May I would bring a Popping rod and a bike with a rod holder on it.Look for breaking(slack) tides around dawn-day break.I plan on doing as much as I can out east (M) this year..Fishing here in NJ is out of control to the point where I am not really sure how much more of it I can take.Full on Braveheart. You pretty much need full body armour. It would be tough for me to bring a friend into this enviroment.Good luck with the new guide service.

Your son may be 4, but youth sports loom on the horizon and very quickly they will consume more of your free time than fishing. A happy wife is a better aid to successful fishing than a boat. It is a lot of work caring for several small boys and letting her know you realize and appreciate it means a lot.

I've got a 10ft Lowes Jon boat you can borrow for a few years if you want. Annoyingly small, but it will get you and a coupla small kids around a pond.

Cutty in June is planned. Hopefully with number one son this year (last June was number two son). Everybody can corrupt him with their porch stories of youthful near death experiences and debauchery. Thinking of adding the Vinyard in early June as well to hit the squid run. Don't get me started on the bucket list a la Dave DiBenedetto.

Starting to sound like we could arrange a Fall S-B.com excursion to Block from what I am see above. Yes, no, maybe?

No plans for this winter, too much going on and not enough$$. I'm already booked for two weeks of codfishing in August, probably get more bookings as the word gets out on how good it's been. Looking forward to doing more canyon trips next year.

BB,if you are lucky, your 4 year old will enjoy fishing more than throwing or kicking a ball.my father got me started at around 3 on a 16 ft Thomson.never did the youth sports thing and have no regrets 51 years later.as far as trips planned for this year,my spring trip to Florida will have to wait until the cabinet business picks up again. will probably leave for the cape early may rather than mid june. a few more trips to my old stomping grounds on LI.thats about it for 09

Well John ,I'll try to hold the fort down for you in the Sebastian this march. Mosquito lagoon will also be under attack as a new flats boat now awaits in Melbourne. May will hopefully mean another tarpon trip in Ft. Myers. Up around here it will be learning some new spots and experimenting with different currents and tides in the old spots.I have been to the Vineyard, B.I.,Cutty and prefer drinking in these locales more than the fishing.Pasquale could provide some excitement.Montauk would also be on the short list if they have any guides that work for beer.

Tautog01 is headed south for a month.
As usual, my wife and I will fly down for a week and crash with them (After the academic deadlines I have coming up, it will be a nice break!). She reads on the beach, we fish mornings and evenings. All DIY, no guide, and all light to medium tackle. Lots of fun

Well the wife has an uncle on Marco Island FL. Just waiting till he gets well enough for me to take his boat out onto the flats. There is one trip.

The next plan is end of May toward the middle of June M getaway. Just like in the fall, I sleep in my VW and fish when I am not sleeping in my VW. I am thinking three or four days then move to Orient a week or two later.

I can also probably convince the wife to head up to one of her old hometowns in northern Mass for some midsummer Stripers.

Of course my folks live a mile from Lake Champlain and about 100 yards from the Bouqet River so that is always a destination. My sister is on the other side of the lake in VT and even closer to Otter Creek where I caught my first Pike and Rainbow.

I just hope I can fit it all in.
