I built one just like that 30 years ago. Never did skin it. :o life and other things got in the way. I think that the frame is still around.

Designed By Mike Alford he named it"Tursiops"
It does have beatiful lines. 15' long and 28" beam
Manuverable, stable, and handles great in the surf
Fishing from it is a blast

The building was originaly built as a workshop for my carpentry buisiness, and to store my tools and equipment .
Nowadays its more of a fishing equipment/kayak storage/ boatbuilding man cave.
I hope to start construction of an outboard skiff soon.

Have you rolled her or made any wet rescue?
Anything you would have changed if build to day?
I have the plans but not started building yet.
I intend to use her in a similar way as you describe.

I built the kayak according to the plans I purchased from Wooden Boat Magazine. I had no manual but the two large drawings provided all of details I needed.

I have "eskimo rolled" and practiced wet exits and re-entry from it, but honestly, this kayak is difficult to tip over.
I can't say that I would change anything, although sometimes I think about having a longer more open cockpit.

How is it to emty her, without seasock, filled and away from shore?
On one of your pics, it looks as you have put glass fiber on the chine,starbord side?
Would it be a v-bottom outboard skiff, ply or strip?

I should try to find some stories. Only hope they don´t have started in US.

I use a "spray skirt" to keep water from entering the kayak - only in very rough seas or launching through breaking waves. Most of the time, like when I am fishing, I prefer not to use the "skirt" and only a small amount of water finds its way into the kayak. I carry a high volume hand pump if I get a large amount of water. Built-in floatation in the bow and stern and inflatable bow and stern bags will displace alot of water. During the warmer months I don't use the skirt.

I used fiberglass tape on the chines and epoxyied the entire surface of the kayak. If I were to build again I would have used finerglass cloth on the entire hull instead of just the seams.

The skiff that I have plans to build is a V-bottom built of 4 and 6mm marine grade plywood covered inside and out with fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Makes for a very lightweight and sturdy hull which in turn needs less horsepower to push it.

How is the weather right now in Sweden? Will you be using the kayak for fishing? If so what type of fish?

This morning, saturday 07:00, in northern Sweden, we have -22 deg. C (-7F). To day sun up 07:35 and down 16:07. Clear sky but sun is not obove my horizon.
Hope to use the kayak for fishing.
When I lived in Gothenburg I used to fish a lot, not from kayak. Shall be back with translated names. But fishing is not my main hoby. I am retired and therefore try to taste on lot of things.
