need to replace tires on wifes suv

this will NOT be offroad....looking for good performance, handling and most importantly quiet.

yokohamas on mine....not going with them again....got 25k before the rounding of the shoulder started....and that was with tire rotation every 5,000

looking for some good advice.

Look at Kelly tires. I put 70K miles on my last set, and just put another set on last year. Very quiet, and priced well. I have them on my 04' trailblazer. I think it ran about $840 or so for the set.

tft has Goodyear Assurance in that size for $121,
Michelin Energy LX4's are $180.

I'd get a four wheel alignment. If your toe, camber, or caster is out your new tires wont last very long either. something is not right if those yokos wore out at 25k.

Get the paperwork from your alignment that shows vehicle before and after specs.

proper inflation is important too.

Buy Michelin's. You get what you pay for.

I cannot remember the name of the tires but I got them at Tire Pro.
I think they were Bridgestones. I had them on a 2004 Trailblazer and got 85K out of them. Just great tires

got michilins at bj's with $60 off coupon.

Jim, my Explorer came with Michelin and I got 90,000 miles on them
I just replaced them with Master Craft I bought them from Town Fair Tire
last week of October and so far they seem ok

I just put a set of Michelin XC LT4 on the Tacoma. Nice riding tire.

BJ's is the way to go - remember that tires have an expiration date as well. Good advice on alignment above, it can destroy a set of tires very quickly, however if you had even wear on all 4 it make have actually been the yokos. Good luck. I have BF all terrain on mine so I cant offer brand advice but I will say BJ's is definitely the best price I found.

You cannot get tires any cheaper than they can be bought at BJ's My own garage sent me there. I put Michelins on my ranger and they work great and are wearing well.

Jim, you sure got a host of replys. I have B.F.Goodrich Wilderness on my wife's Grand Cherokee, and they are holding up great. I had Coopers on my F150 and went to TOYO Open Country this fall. What I noticed was, I did not have to air down at WH with the Toyo's, I did not need to go into FWD to get out of my driveway in 2" snow and they are quiet. Handling is much improved and they seem to be very ROUND. Only one small wheel weight required on the same rims as the Coopers, compaired to three large weights.

Jim, try BJ's. I was there the other day and they are wicked cheap on EVERYTHING! They have alot of tires and I'm going there when my tires are gone.

IM running GoodYear Wrangler RTS 225 60 R18 I have 48K on them and have some life to-em maybe 15K+ but if some of you are getting 70-90K there's somthing to be said for that.I guess I'll look into Michelin for my next set of tiers.

Go with Michelins. I got 85k miles out of the last set. Now I have Goodyear Wrangler RT/S 's on this truck and they SUCKKKKKKKK.
Even on damp roads they slide. They are horrible in the snow. Any snow and I got to 4x4 it. Big bucks and they have no traction. Lesson learned.
The only way to beat BJ's prices is maybe if you have a family member that is a cop or firefighter, then TownFair gives them a public servant discount.

Definetely check the date stamp on the tire before purchase. I bought a set of BFG's for my Jeep from an online place, after about 12K they started to develop fine cracks around the rim...turns out I bought a tire that was popped out the mold in 04. Tires were $310 a piece, I was not a happy guy. To make matters worse, the online dealer wanted nothing to do with the warranty issue. I had to go directly to BFG, they did warranty them %100.

When the wife goes back to working (has not worked since kids were born 13 years ago) she can go out and buy any vehicle she wants.

But till then she can shuttle the kids around to all their sports, band and school activities in her mini van, and maybe then I can cut back to working 1 full time job and spend more time on my "brandy new boat" :humpty:
