Well alright! So far we have 27 builders ready to participate in this somewhat unique "Challenge/Swap"! Basically what we are going to do is take all of the names and match them with another builder...everyone will get another builders name. The premise of this challenge is that the name of the person you receive gets to make a request of you....to build a plug! Now......the idea was that you would have to accept that persons challenge and complete that plug to the best of your ability! However some folks are concerned about making certain plugs which may be out of their expertise (I would not want to make a darter either:wall:) so here is how we will do it. The person can make a request and if you accept it then so be it.....however if the request is a bit much the builder can make an offer to make something which may be a bit more to their ability. EXAMPLE: Slipknot gets my name and he will request a plug of me....his request will either be agreed upon or the 2 parties can come to a mutual agreement such as I can't make the darter Slipknot wanted but we agree I will make him a jointed "Prey" swimmer?? What we are looking for here is to build a plug which may be unique and different from what you may ordinarily make....to test your skill a little. In the end.....after all is said and done each builder will receive a plug and hopefully all will enjoy a good time! When finished we can post pics of the bounty and maybe display many of them at PlugFest in February! It sounds complicated but its pretty basic and intended for a goodtime! :uhuh:

Below is a list of names of all who are "IN". Anyone interested in getting in has until noon Monday the 5th to enter at which time it will close to all. That evening I will announce the pairings and you can all get in touch via pm's and get to work! The deadline for completion is February 14th which is a week before "PlugFest"! and receiving a peanut swimmer from Striperknight.

I was asked to make a freshwater lure for Striperhound who has since moved away from the ocean.. Funny , I've never made a freshy ,, Tiny ,, I freshwater fish also, but just buy them . I'm enjoying the challenge and kind of suprising myself . I think I'll be making more freshy's for my own fishing . Thanks Larry and Striperhound ..

Tagger, take your favorite surf plugs and downsize them to the 3-4 inch range. Pikies, spooks, pencils, poppers, dannys in that range all produce in freshwater.

Definitely try a small pencil too :heybaby: I do a 1/2 oz canal style that will slay smallies better than a spook most days. Though if you are interested in scaled down spooks, I might just know where to get one :bl:

I have two versions in the works, one is in sealer the other---I am waiting for aprt to come in before making a final cut, then its off to sealer.

I am working on a few sizes of surfster, never ever made any of these before. Did some research been toying with how I want the body to look. Finally have the body I want and ran off several on the duplicator last night. Never having made these I have to find some open water to test swim some this weekend before putting them in the sealer. Going to be tough with highs here in the 5 degree range this weekend. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Still turning out a few different protos trying to get it to behave how I want it to. Only problem now is most of my testing grounds are iced up pretty solid.

Working on my cowboy jr. Handmade lips. No production lips the size i use. Primed and base coat done. Final paint scheme next.

well the 3oz. darter is all dressed in her dancing cloths now just waiting for her fancy top coat. Dave do you want any glitter in it?

THE GREEK: Nice shape carving. How bout an old fashion Block color scheme, green over silver. a green cross between olive and green and a subdued silver. I do needles in this shade, looks nice and real.

Outnumbered? Giving you eye options for your Atom Jr. Pick which you would like on your plug! The 1/2" eyes shown in picture 4 and 5 can be done with the non-recessed eye socket as well (pictured in picture 2). Let me know ASAP as I want to get her all drilled and sealed tomorrow!:kewl:

Machined and sealed the little danny today. It's as true to the original as I can do without a dupe. In fact it was beside the lathe as I turned the Greek's. That original rewarded me handsomely...

Dad gave me a lot of latitude so I've taken the opportunity to get creative which means I've spent a ton of time staring at the plug, I'm please with what I've got so far and cant wait to get to the serious painting.....I plan to swim it this week to make sure it is effective...overall...just about 10" needlefish, a little over 12 with the tail hook I think...planning to get to the SWE open fly tying night this week to work up a nice dressed tail hook, I'm thoroughly enjoying this but it's killing any other plug making that might have been done...still plenty of winter left, hope everyone decides to do this on a regular basis...

I owe a fat danny and I was planning on making a whole run of them but I've still got a dozen needle blanks turned and I haven't even worked the weighting out on those yet. The topwater stuff I did is primed but I wanted to mess around with the weighting on it but its been so cold testing been a pain. And then there were the freakin darters that had to be swum over and over again last weekend. They are almost done, first bunch will be epoxied tomorrow before work.

I'll turn the danny I owe tomorrow... sounds like a run of 1. Or maybe 2, I gotta make me one too! and the black ones in bad shape and so's yellow boy. So maybe 3, or 4 or 6.... ugh.

Going down to the creek for a test swim. With warmer temps, and a window of water w/o ice will see if it dances!. I also need to swim a newly weighted design of a Wad needle. I'll get back w/ results.

Swam a few plugs. The Cowboy Jr is real sweet. Nice sway and dives 2' w/ moderate retreive. Excellent wake cranked slow. Lip and wire adjust will define the depth and waggle. The needles were as expected. 1' under w/ a wiggle.

I was asked to make a fresh water lure .. UUhhhgg .. Never made one . This would be a challenge .. I ended up with .,, what eles ? a predator .. Plug is thru wired and weighted just like the big guys .. I made a few knowing I'd mess up.. First paint job frog patern dots, I tried for perfect circles , with inner perfect circles ,, plus I put way too many .. Ended up looking like the polka dot kid .. I intentually after that tried messing up the circles too odd shapes ,. think it looks better .. I didn't have a real frog .. probably should have googled .. All I need now is an addy .. PM and I'll get on it ..

that's a great looking frog! I just got back from the pier, there was a nice little current moving so I was able to see my plug in action, I've been trying make a realistic eel in a large jointed needle despite what I read in the archives about the uselessness of jointed needles, I drilled out the inside of the back section and filled it w/ shot so that it's ass heavy and casts great then levels out in the water, the head section is smallish and wiggles side to side with tiny twitches, looked very convincing as i watched it from above on the pier as the current carried it....I got the micro scales done this weekend and will probably paint the features tomorrow....Dad, I wiil have a difficult time separating this from my hand...but I hope ya love it!
