View Full Version : East Bay Anglers Show
JohnR 01-05-2009, 08:03 AM Good to see everyone at the EBA show yesterday :btu:
Props to Will Barbeau and the East Bay Anglers for putting on a great show.
Great stuff by Laptew as usual. Look forward to Crazy Alberto's LONG VERSION of the show. Too much good info and strategy, not enough time :btu:
rphud 01-05-2009, 09:29 AM Thinking the same myself. Do you know when and where for the long version?
Crafty Angler 01-05-2009, 09:39 AM Excellent show put on by the EBA - I thought it would cure my winter fishing pox but it just made it worse - I hadn't been to it in years, used to go all the time.
Mike's underwater footage of Brenton Reef with big bass and the bottom covered in hundreds of blackfish had me foaming at the mouth...:hs:...exquisite tog porn, Mike...:kewl:
Alberto's presentation was as good as it always is, covering big fish tactics in detail - he had the crowd mesmerized and he told me afterwards they wanted to book him again for next year.
Also picked up a nice print Alberto had of bass chasing juvenile tog for an appetizer - if you haven't seen Alberto's artwork, do yourself a favor and take a look, it's incredible.
The Crazy one is also a big tog fan - his latest is a tog getting ready to chow down on a green crab, I think he told me the lithograph had 16 different colors in it - it's next on my list. You can never have too many fish pictures around the house, I always say - lucky for me Mrs Crafty humors me...
Good mini- Bloooberry Social at the Coddington afterwards, too - good seeing the gang - just stopped by for a short rinse and got to see both Pt Jude brothers, Jake and Elwood.
All in all, a great day out of the shack, but boy, the season can't come quick enough now.
Odizza 01-05-2009, 10:00 AM yeah it seemed like he could have talked all day... it was a good time
Al in Westport 01-05-2009, 11:17 AM Thanks EBA for putting together a good show. Also, thanks to the donors of the goodies I was lucky enough to win. Thanks to OTW for a years subscription.
Al
the point 01-05-2009, 03:07 PM Alberto's presentation was great.. Must have been the fastest hour I've seen.. He could have talked forever. Very great tips and strategies.
I left there ready to wet some lines....but when i went outside to the 20 degree weather with snow piles everywhere.. Just made me more depressed:crying:.. Gonna have to take a trip to the OBX.:kewl:
Rocco34520 01-05-2009, 09:50 PM I loved the show. I was alittle dissappointed in the fisherman's market. And thought a big builder was suppose to be there as a suprise? But both speakers did a great job. It did seem like Alberto was just reading from his chapter in Z's new book, but neverless i had a great time at my first fishing seminar ever.
Fish_Eye 01-06-2009, 07:19 PM I had a great time at the show and the blooberry get together was fun too.
Thanks to everyone who attended, you really made for a terrific audience and I appreciate your comments on the show. Al is a great entertainer, educator, angler and friend. I'm sure you'll be seeing Al again at the 25th anniversary show. It should be the best show ever.
Special thanks to John R for his efforts at letting the striper world know the event was going off.
Mike
PS - #^&#^&#^&#^&'s Sport and Hobby from Pawtucket was there. It was a rare appearance by a crafty old retailer who did bring a nice stash of old wood, pins, and difficult to find lures. I know Alberto had his eye's on the big Cotten Cordell swimmers and the old cedar Poe's were a deal in the original boxes. I hope somebody scored.
surfcrazy1 01-06-2009, 10:15 PM also first time at seminar-done fishing shows, #^&#^&#^&#^& was great and crazy alberto seemed to be able to talk forever. would like to see his whole presentation. have to thank will for getting me a ticket at last moment [wife was very happy to get me out of house] looking forward to more shows
thanx striped-bass

Katie 01-06-2009, 10:32 PM I'll admit I'm not usually one who enjoys seminars, but these were great! Loved both of them. Great show. Was nice too see people also, can't wait till next year! :)

I was speaking with Alberto yesterday, and he was kicking himself for not grabbing the Big Os. One guy came along and grabbed them all, and got a discount for taking them all (apparently for less than $10 each). Whoever it was scored big time!!!
Crafty Angler 01-07-2009, 08:05 AM Alberto told me about the Big O's as soon as I got there -and the guy had just snagged them...:hs:
I ran over to the table as quick as my stubby legs would carry me - from a distance I saw what looked like NIP F-90's laid out on the table, turned out to be Norman's...
I had planned to be there at 1 but didn't make it til 1:30 or so - ya know, when my ship comes in I got a feeling I'm gonna be waiting at the airport...
Rocco34520 01-07-2009, 05:26 PM I didnt even see the Big O's. I must have just missed them i got there at 1:00 ish. What are old cedar Poe's?
Rocco34520 01-10-2009, 12:10 AM anyone help me out?
Green Light 01-12-2009, 10:57 PM The show was awesome.
Mike's audio-video presetation was so personal. We got to see and hear what a stripped bass sees and hears under the water. The document patterns were great. Seeing is beliving.
Alberto's talk was great!!
Lots, and lots of information.
He really know's his stuff and how to tell a story.
He gave away hat to the children in the audience, that was cool.
He also kept it real.
I agree, 1 hr is too short.
The next time he present the full version of his talk, I'm there. No question.
Both speakers had the audience captivated.
This show has raised the standard, in my humble opinion.
Hopefully next year we can buy our tickets online.
There were 50 walkins!
