Hey, anyone out there have a trusted marine mechanic they can refer me too, or refer to me. They would have to service Mercury outboards.

I live in Weymouth, so preferrably someplace in or around New England.

I just need to get some minor maintenance done and am considering upgrading the motor. I would sure appreciate any help.

Thanks.

I've got a couple for you. Chips outboard in Hanson Ma is pretty reliable and not to bad on your wallet. His number is 781 293-9462. The other on is a guy that rebuilds outboards in his spare time in a little out of the way shop in Hanover. The guy does good work and he's cheep. I bought a rebuilt 1992 Evenrude 70 HP off him this spring for $1,500 and just sold it for $1,500. Chip can be hard to get, but this guys is even harder, but well worth it if you need to save some money. His number is 781 765-2224.

I guess by your inquiry you don't like Bill's Outboard up on 3A in Weymouth. Can't say I blame you, because I was never happy with their work and had Chips redo some stuff on my Merc 50 that was never done right the first time.

Good luck and tight lines.

Hey GirlyMonster!! Why don't you just get a bigger rubber-band, eh wuss breath??? Put on a bigger motor, come on! 25hp is plenty for that alluminum, riveted, drag s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g bathtup with a point!!! Save your money for the big boat. So we can fish off Monomoy when your mom gets the Cape house :P

SM, the only place I know of may be too far for you but G& S Marine in Buzzards Bay is a Merc dealer and excellant to deal with. I believe Chris is the guy to speak to. Good luck,Bruce

Thanks Gots Stripers and Slipknot... John, kiss my butt!

I'm not going to buy a new motor, I may, however, updgrade my 18hp to a 25 since their basically the same machine... if its not too expensive. It planes out nice, so if its too steep, say more than a few hundred bucks, that $$ goes into my spring '02 saltwater rig account :-)

Mainly I need to get a couple of minor things checked out and I hope to find a reliable mechanic.

Got Stripers, I just got the boat recently, so I haven't been to that guy in Weymouth... I think I'll steer clear based on your assessment.

tight lines.

Hey Schoolie Monster, how are ya buddy, did you enjoy your vacation? Try calling tropical Land in Dedam, they are very good freinds of ours, Larry & his wife Karen own the place. There machanic Brian is the best, and very trustworthy. That is were we bought our boat, and they do it all, from wiring to repair work, right at there facility and they are really a great bunch of guys to deal with, won't ripp you off either. There number is 781-329-3777.
If you need directions, just give me a call. I think we need to go look for some fishies down Plymouth way very soon!!!!!! are you and the wife maybe up for a trip?

Fisherwoman,

Thanks for the info and yes, the trip was great. A very relaxing week with enough fish to keep up the interest and enough excellent food to get me back in the gym this week. I contributed fresh clam chowder and live lobsters (we cooked them before consuming) for my meal the first night and the food didn't go downhill from there. Weather was fantastic and its a great group of guys, so we had no choice but to have a blast.

The trip is a tradition for me like the Vineyard is for you and Baitcaster. I've only missed 3 or 4 years since 1982 when I was just a youngster. So, on top of being fun, it brings back alot of great memories.

Plymouth, eh? I definitely would like to get out, as would ms. schoolie monster... unfortunately, we're having an addition put on the house and in order to save some cash, we're doing the mudding and taping once the wallboard is up. That is supposed to be done today...but I can't confirm that so who knows. Next weekend my babysitter (mom) is going back to PA to visit.

Point is... I don't have a clue what the heck is going on! Not sure when both Karen and I might be able to go out, but if you're heading down and would like someone to tag along, please let me know.

I'll check the board later tonight and we'll converse... I wanted to go out with John down in Rhody for some large but I can't do an all-nighter this weekend.

Anyway, gotta run and pick up the not-so-little one. Hope to talk to ya later.

Schoolie Monster, we still have some time left to hit the that area, last year we had fish there until they closed it down, mid December so don't worry, hopefully we can hook up on a Sunday in the next couple of weeks and see what we can find, I will try and get down there to do a little scouting before that. I will let ya know whats happening!!!!
