Can't say much that hasn't already been said - he had few equals as a guitarist.

I found a great performance clip from the old Night Music show that was hosted by David Sanborn on youtube with Hiram Bullock on rhythm guitar:

A lot of people have played Hendrix - Stevie seemed to channel him:

I like Hiram. I am also a big fan of brother Jimmy. I actually prefer his music to SRV, not taking anything away from Stevie. Jimmy's not half the guitarist but I just like his brothers style more.

ever see SRV on MTV unplugged? he played a 12 string and sang. It was amazing, raw and very personal.
I heard "Pride and Joy" on the radio when I was 13 and started saving $ for a guitar the next day, I wanted to be able to do that. I also remember the day he died, I was sitting in a Burger King parking lot following the news story, earlier in the day they thought it might be Clapton, and then the confirmed it was SRV. Blew my mind.

This is a little off thread but the first video made me think about it. With all the crap they have into DVDs from television shows why hasn't anyone the brains to put out Night Music. It has to be the best music show ever to be put on by any of the three networks. It is owned by Lorne Michaels so you would think it would not be that difficult. There was a two DVD best of that was around for a while which featured the jazz guys but there was so much good stuff on that show it deserves to be put out as a complete box set.

I'm with you on that - I've got quite a few of them on VHS tapes that I recorded at the time - the mix of talent on the show was phenominal...:uhuh:

As far as live performance tv shows go it was one of the best along with Austin City Limits and mtv Unplugged -

There's a show on one of the cable channels now hosted by Elvis Costello that I've been watching lately - it's excellent, it's on IFC or Sundance, I think -
