I never said he was but I'll bet you older brother Jimmie had lots of influence on his little brother and was very instrumental in his rise to greatness.

Clapton lists JV as one of his favorite guitarists....

many, many, many guitarists would disagree. Jimmie has incredible phrasing, and lots of quirky aspects of his playing that are almost impossible to copy.
I've explained this to people before using a food analogy. SRV is like eating a bacon cheeseburger, tons of flavor and lots to fill your stomach. It doesnt take a cooking degree to enjoy it. Jimmie is like a subtle filet mignon with hints of different flavors, educated foodies will enjoy it more than the average diner.

Anyone have Netflix, rent the Fabulous Thunderbirds Live in London.
Heres Jimmie at his best, pulling everything he can from a strat.....this gives me goosebumps

That was cool!:kewl:

I have a couple of his albums and he is just very different than SRV. I like the high energy and great clarity of SRV! Sometimes it seems Jimmie is tripping over the strings instead of picking them?

I think thats the quirkiness I was reffering to, he slurs a lot, which is intentional. His best stuff IMHO is with the Thuderbirds, not the MTV crap, but the straight ahead blues. He also uses his fingers instead of a pick which gives a different sound.

the Essential Jimmie Vaughan is an excellent CD. Some times simplicity is perfect. It doesn't always have to be complicated.

Nothing complicated about Stevie.....he was just "one" with his guitar and all of his emotion and energy funneled through it! As I said...a wonderful guitar player is Jimmy and I am a fan. The videos are great!:)

No need to compare them. Really splitting hairs now and no need too, both are really good in their own way.
