I don't think so. I drive by it every day. Don't really pay attention to the sign but the same cars that are there when it's open have been there this winter.....even if they are buried in the snow bank. They had a sign up for a while advertising the stuff he imports from Tibet but I think that may have since been taken that down too. I would not be surprised if there is a new b&t sign by spring. Were else will I buy really expensive eels?

Hope Rick does OK, that said, Luds, I really hope he isn't your eel source unless he has improved significantly because they always stank... A run to Belsans would be suggested for eels - that is what I had to do when I lived there...

Rick usually takes off for Thailand for the winter and pulls down the sign, but I'll swing by and take a closer look. Rick has always treated me well and has a pretty good clientele. I can't see him doing anything else, unless he's packed it in and moved to Thailand full time.

Doesn't Ron at Sportsman's Den on 3A still carry eels?? Not that Pete is a bad option.

Ron always had eels too. But Belsans always had the best eels within 30 minutes of Quincy.

I get them from Pete whenever I can but sometimes Fore River is just to convenient if my stock is low and time is an issue.

 If I want to buy jewelry I go to Rick's. If I want fresh bait and snakes I go Belsan's.

Just stopped by his shop, he's still there. He just got back from Vietnam so he hasn't shovelled out, so it does look a little deserted. He explained that he took down the tackle sign in the fall because no one buys tackle from November-March, and he's diversifying into the jewelry/Asian goods to make ends meet, so that explains the jewelry sign. He did a little addition off to the side with goods from Vietnam, Thailand, etc.

Got to talking with him (really just listening) and he explained how the tackle biz was tough and he was trying to generate another income stream. He pointed out that Ron at Sportsman's Den sells tackle, sharpens skates, carries darts and related dart supplies, and finally was just able to get a permit to sell firearms (I know he fought long and hard for that one - the recently replaced Quincy Police chief was anti-gun and wouldn't allow it to go through). He went on to point out how not too long ago there were 30+ tackle stores in the area and now there are but a few.

He also pointed out that he's been there for 30 years and he's not going anywhere - so you can all sleep easier.

if you think his eels are bad try the lady in hull, got some with sores on them one night last summer, she tried to tell me it was normal.....nevermind the fact she tells all the illegals where the fish are biting and continues to sell them stuff even though she knows they keep shorts
