I want to go sometime in June 09 and im willing to split expenses. Basically I plan on fishing all night then a few hours of rest so I can drive home after the ferry ride.

Yo Rocco, going with a group that has some experience of the layout is a great way to start. What better than to get out there and have someone tell you where you might want to start and where to possibly move next and WHY ;). It's NOT a place you go to blind...:walk:.....I don't know if you're over 60 or not, but I think you have to be at least 21 to go with the site trip.

Actually am giving some thought to a commando trip. Large back pack to carry waders/gear and enough food to get you through the night. Anyone ever look on the beaches for people sleeping? Is that an approved thing to do on the island?

I have taken a cat nap on the rocks before :sleeps:

I know right.... I was thinking the same thing. You pay big bucks to go to a place and rent the house out that you never really get to sleep at anyways :bl: I would be all over grabbing a tent and bringing a backpack with some food and water to supply a 3-4 day visit. I'd fish alll night anyways and just try to catch a few hours during the day on the beach. Totally with you. :kewl:

...ya shouldn't have a problem taking a nap on the shoreline so-long as you don't pitch a tent :) . .. ...if anyone asks ya, you're just taking a break, not sleeping ;)......and it's not like you'll be anywhere close to a residence so I wouldn't worry about that. (Edited: you might not want to be seen getting off the ferry with Tent supplies, I don't think that's appreciated out there...it's like taking a step back in time once on the island....and you pitching a tent might appear to be lost revenue to the watching natives)...not to mention, you'll be basically walking right thru the middle of town to get where you're going...so you won't go un-noticed.

Just a few things to mention in regards to 1- Night Commando Trips... for those who haven't been -

When the Ferry drops you off, you've got NO WHERE to go. There's no bar/restaurant/hangout area....NADA. You're on foot with all your gear...and it's probably way to early to start fishing, AND... you want to disappear so you don't look like a moron to the natives. You'll want to know exactly where you'd like to start fishing and head in that direction. Once there, make yourself comfortable, find your markers/the better spots to access where you want to fish, & where you'll potentially land the fish...and scout around the area before night fall. GO THERE WITH A GAME PLAN. Don't get there and try to figure out what to do, you'll spend a lot of time walking around and getting tired, and with a long night ahead of you, you'll want to conserve your energy. Check the forecast, if it rains, what will you do? There's no where to hide from it.., (legally). If you're looking to catch the morning Ferry, plan your fishing around being back in time....otherwise, you'll have MANY HOURS of sitting on an empty dock....once again, looking like a moron who didn't plan accordingly. :wave:

There's probably a write-up somewhere on here on how to pack for a commando trip...:huh:....but I'm not a big fan of the "Search" engine.....so you'll have to dig it up on your own. It will only take you one trip to figure out how to pack and fish it for the next time.

I highly recommend doing a group trip BEFORE a commando trip....for your 1st time.

Camping Is there public or private camping (campgrounds) on the island? No...there are NO public or private campgrounds. If you want to stay over, you need to rent a room or house (see www.cuttyhunk.net/lodging.htm for more information)

Dogs Are dogs allowed on the island? Yes, but as always, be polite. Leash your dog in any public areas (on the street, near houses, etc.).

If you want to schedule it better, contact the Seahorse. You can schedule a water taxi a little more conveniently than being dependant on the ferry.....may cost you a few extra bucks but you will be more in control of your schedule.

Look at it as, what would I bring out on the beach for a night of fishing and just take that.....and an extra reel and a spare tip or to for the rod.....you'd hate to take a header early and bust something and not be able to fish anymore.

Earwigs? What about the hordes of blood s#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&g skeeters? Those thing are vicious :shocked:. No one mentioned them when I asked about Cutty last year :doh:. I found out about them the hard way. It's hard to turn the reel handle when you're constantly swatting at something buzzing your noggin :fury:.

I want to do a few "commando" style fishing raids on Cutty, with some people who have been there, done that.

I also would like to stay at the club at some point too.

Circlehook, you should stay at the Club and drink in all the ambience Cutty has to offer! It's part of the entire expierence.Also, fishing Cutty is a very, very strenuous and having a nice comfortable bed to crash in really helps particularly if you are going to fis h multiple nighhts.

Ditto what Steve said......plus a shower is always nice! You are paying the $60.00 round trip ferry fee......why not spend the extra dough and stay for 2 nights for another $300.00??? Its nirvana!:uhuh:

I can't swing the Vineyard and Cutty (staying at the inn) also. Well I could if I wasn't married, but twelve days on the vineyard is large for me.
I have hiked the Rocky Mountains, the Siera's (pacific rim), and the high desert in S.W. Utah. While I am older an not in that kind of shape at the moment, one night on Cutty seems plausible. It one step at a time just like any other hike. Just have to get the O.K.
It seems like besides the ferry and eels, and a plethora of wood I should be good to go, plus of course first aid kit/food/charged cell phone ect, ect. If we catch large I understand we can rent a golf cart to go and get the cows to bring to the ferry.

We take an annual trip with one of the boys out of Woods Hole for a full day through the islands, spending the lion's share at Cutty. Expensive, but man, there are some big ol fish there! Going with someone who knows every rock has it's advantages! And you can learn a ton pickin brains.
