View Full Version : Epoxy
TheSpecialist 12-30-2002, 07:56 PM Has anyone experienced the epoxy they are using clouding up. Mine has on some plugs I made towards the end of the summer. All were crystal clear when hardened and stayed clear. I just noticed while looking through my stuff some were now cloudy. Could it be because they are stored in a cool basement?
capesams 12-30-2002, 07:59 PM  could b that the water is getting in an not getting a chance to dry. try laying 1 on a window sill in the sun and see what happens.
TheSpecialist 12-30-2002, 08:16 PM ok
Christian 12-31-2002, 11:10 AM that happened to some of my five min stuff i used over the eyes on a few of mine. make sure you dont have any wd40 or other lubricant on the stuff to be epoxyed cause i think maybe thats what happened to them. could it just be the epoxy ageing?
Krispy 12-31-2002, 02:56 PM Its called amine blush. Its what happens to low grade epoxy sometimes after full curing

But that usually comes out shortly after curing not 6 months later and it is usually more like a film on the surface which washes off with water.
Sudsy 01-02-2003, 02:49 PM This is only a guess, but did you use wood that has a large sap content such as pine or cedar that was not kiln dried?
It's possible that you have some sap bleeding through.
Krispy 01-02-2003, 10:01 PM Slip is right, i didnt read that thoroughly. Epoxy, even when cured doesnt have the most stable of properties

Slipknot 01-03-2003, 12:27 AM Think adhesion, compatability and flexibility. Durability, water resistance among other qualities. And if you can get UV protection ta boot, you're all set.
