ProfessorM 03-10-2009, 01:00 PM more birdies. Buds on early flowering plants are starting to swell and show some color and sure sign as I was able to prime some plugs outdoors today as I have a little micro climate up against the house. cheferson 03-10-2009, 02:07 PM The crocus have been blooming the last 4 days ProfessorM 03-10-2009, 02:12 PM The crocus have been blooming the last 4 days I believe that. Once all the snow melts , the sunlite is absorbed as heat instead of reflected. To me , that';s when spring happens. Raven 03-11-2009, 09:04 AM screw Ground HOGS when chipmunks appear spring is here :walk: ya'll seen any? i'm a hankerin for SOME chipmunk stew :jump1: Saltheart 03-11-2009, 09:15 AM You don't eat chipmunks!! They talk and sing!! I've seen it on TV and at the movies. :) Raven 03-11-2009, 09:22 AM You don't eat chipmunks!! They talk and sing!! I've seen it on TV and at the movies. :) Alvin is the first one into the stew pot :kewl: and i'll attach his skin to a plug for the canal :p ProfessorM 03-11-2009, 11:44 AM Been one active in my stone wall near house all winter. On warm days he has come out and sits there eating stored acorns and pissing off my cat. Raven 03-11-2009, 11:54 AM they love to piss off cats they enjoy the thrill of the chase like nothing else Raven 03-11-2009, 11:57 AM I believe that. Mine are not up yet and may have been eaten by some dang gum varmint go to the herb store and buy bulk cayenne pepper because you have to add more sprinkles of it after each rain storm.... once they get HOT mouth they will leave it alone.... Adam_777 03-11-2009, 06:29 PM The critters are starting to come out.My tiny front yard looked like it was hit with an aerator.Birds maybe digging for worms ?Grubs ? This was Sunday the last time I was able to stop and look @ it. Raven 03-11-2009, 06:38 PM flocks of starlings will dig up all the lawn grubs as soon as the soil is thawed out and it's better than using pesticides Saltheart 03-11-2009, 06:46 PM Yeah and the skunks doing the same will make it look like its been rototilled. :( Raven 03-11-2009, 07:01 PM definitely skunk season use moth balls to chase them away Adam_777 03-11-2009, 07:03 PM I hope they feast on it.The less lawn to cut the better for me.I pay for water so obviously I'm not watering the damn lawn. On a side note.Yesterday while road testing a tractor down the highway I got to a ramp and I slowed way down. There was this big hawk gliding in the ditch to my right .He landed in a tree in close view to me and gave me the nod.So I think spring is here.Saltheart has it right with the heat absorption theory meaning it's on it's way.I couldn't have explained it better myself.I am sick of the white stuff. Raven 03-17-2009, 05:34 AM when i heard the Robin Sing..... something about there song has always defined spring for me anyways... when i was just a little kid it told me to go fishing down to the Charles river more than anything else so happy now to hear it. ProfessorM 03-17-2009, 09:09 AM as the day comes to an end and you can hear the robins up high in the trees is a welcome sound to me too cheferson 03-17-2009, 09:31 AM There is a half dozen dandilions blooming in my front yard Jenn 03-17-2009, 10:06 AM There is a half dozen dandilions blooming in my front yard Time to make wine! fishbones 03-17-2009, 10:20 AM On Sunday, the peepers were out making a racket. At first I thought it was wild turkeys, but then realized that the sound was coming from the little pond in the woods next to my house. Soon enough, I'll be scooping frogs and their eggs off of my pool cover. I like all the other little creatures around my house, except for the frogs. I'd love to find a way to get rid of them once and for all. Raven 03-17-2009, 10:46 AM that's easy ducks gobble them up like candy Raven 03-17-2009, 10:48 AM everywhere i went all i could smell was dead skunks on the road i saw at least 8 of them  in several towns fishbones 03-17-2009, 10:58 AM that's easy ducks gobble them up like candy You got any ducks you want to send my way? Unfortunately, the coyotes got the ones that used to reside down the street from me. Plum Crazy 03-17-2009, 11:50 AM I saw bright yellow crocus' popping the heads out Sunday. That did it for me. I am ready to hit the sand even if it is just walking and cleaning up the beach.:jump: Raven 03-17-2009, 01:57 PM SUGAR for the hummingbird feeders :) striperman36 03-17-2009, 03:43 PM Hummingbirds are at my feeders by May 10th. 5/0 03-18-2009, 08:46 PM 1 week ago Saturday I heard a couple of Spring peepers but tonight,Man there every where.
