Dad, I've swam the O.E. beachmaster Cowboys, my own and others. They all roll. I tried AYC, PINE & cedar. The lead slug 1/2x1/2 weighs appor. 3/4 oz. and it still rolls. It's a large round diameter. Personally when fished close to surface the roll looks like a disoriented bait fish. I would keep the painting simple w/o a black & white 2 tone. ProfessorM 03-07-2009, 06:24 PM nice ed. I like the bottom one and have made a few of those and they troll well stripercrazy 03-09-2009, 09:11 PM trollboy http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o454/stripercrazy/cbtb1.jpg stripercrazy 03-09-2009, 09:12 PM I've seen a pic of one http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o454/stripercrazy/cbtb2.jpg stripercrazy 03-09-2009, 09:15 PM I got two tester one weighted like I weight a cowboy and I'm trying a 1/2inch 9 gram in the frount weight mark and a small tailweight... .20 or .24 nd I'm trying a bluntboy no slope:wavey: http://i343.photobucket.com/albums/o454/stripercrazy/tbbb4.jpg stripercrazy 03-09-2009, 09:19 PM its cypress....rings:spin: ProfessorM 03-10-2009, 01:28 PM Curious Ed. Do you like the cypress? I find it to be so grainy that it is hard to get a smooth plug. I use it as I have a bunch and for my own stuff I really don't care so much about the finish look but I will probably not buy any more. I will use AWC or WRC instead if I want something light. Just curious in your opinion. The Dad Fisherman 03-10-2009, 01:51 PM I noticed the same thing about the cypress...you definitely get ridges on the finished product.....thats what I used on my Cowboys.....might try and use a heavier wood and see if I can reduce the roll that way stripercrazy 03-10-2009, 05:27 PM I agree its a pain...I like the weight its heaver than the white and red...ayc's better but to get the 2x2inch wood I got to buy 2x4's and rip them down...I got the cypress from doc at a great price...I just ripped down some for next year from planks....if it was all the same price I'd go with ayc...white or red for topwater and ayc before cypress for swimmers...the outside ring will never sand off:hihi: I got some planks from doc at plugfest for 4 or 5 bucks each probly got 15 feet of 2x2 each plank stripercrazy 03-10-2009, 05:38 PM dad, I tried swimmers with heaver wood and didn't care for the action the weight killed it...I like cypress and the ayc because there heaver, a 9 inch pikie in white of red ceder is hard to get it under the surface..the cypress and ayc float good but not as well as the white or red giveing more control and swimming better subsurface...I may try spanish ceder... Pete F. 03-10-2009, 11:01 PM Ed have you tried southern yellow poplar, seal it with oil base polyurethane sanding sealer. Cheap available and the same density as AYC. stripercrazy 03-11-2009, 07:37 AM pete I'll have to try it...I just cut up a bunch of basswood...I bought a 2x6x8 feet plank.....seems heaver than awc and red ceder brianenos80 03-11-2009, 01:12 PM Looking good still waiting for mine vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
