You posted that you haven't seen these around for years...me either.

Well, until I followed one off southern RI 2 years ago and attempted to get a fish-eye view from a strange fish with strange eyes...not to mention a parrot-like beak, the skin of a porcupine, a tendency to blow up like a balloon and flesh that's tasty as long as you don't ingest too much poison. Glad to have seen this fella.

How about you folks out there sharing some weird fish pictures from your collection. Goose, Wolf, Eel, etc.

We catch puffer fish from time to time while scup fishing in the summer in RI. Also pick up a trigger fish or two each season. No pics though. :(

I caught 2 trigger fish at once on a hi/lo rig while scup fishing the center wall in pt. judith... never before, and never since... just a double trigger hook up that day... they have some seriously strong jaws... beautiful fish... look tropical

We often catch trigger fish while fishing for scup and sea bass off BI on the west grounds. We also caught a few puffers while scup fishing in shallow water off Montauk Point.

I saw one of them free diving about a year ago in the cook islands on my honeymoon. Cool fish!

Mike Fish-eye, when I was a kid ( in the 50's), we caught a lot of these on the east and west walls while bottom fishing. They are a pretty cool fish.. Where did they go? Steve

In the bays of Long Island we called those BlowFish. (northern puffers) They were/(still are?) consider pests. They were everyplace when I was a kid, don't see too many anymore, esp. up here

I dug up a toadfish once in my clam rake...hiddious looking thing.

My kids caught this in a net and put it in their salt water bay tank they had, still not sure what it is:

I fish for triggers every August on Long Island South Shore, very prevalent on a few pieces I fish tough as hell to fillet. In May blowfish can be taken in decent numbers inside some of the brackish bowls inside Moriches bay. I catch a bunch every May on sands but they are very small but fun to play with. I think they dont spread as far north as they used to but dont know why.
