Is it a "Clunk" or a "Click"? If it's a click, rap the starter solenoid with a hammer... Fortunately starters are both cheap $80 looking around and easy to replace (2 bolts, a nut and some whires) - or take it out and bring it to a place that reconditions them - not sure where on the cape.

If you can build a surfster you can swap a starter :D

Any starter / alternator recon places your way? Look under auto electrical in the yellow pages - usually the cheapest way out.

Don't know how it is now with the discount shops but usually turned starters around for $50-60.

NAPA, get a rebuilt. If it craps out again they do an equal swap.

check your wire connections, start at the battery, make sure they are tight and clean, same thing at the starter.
the zone also has lifetime free replacement

do it soon before hell freezes over this weekend

6cyl or 8cyl?

But check the wires first like Red said. Also check for big corrosion on any of the wires - out trucks are more susceptible and yours probably spends more time in the sand than anyones...

Assuming the most common: 95 F150, 302V8, E4OD auto

Autozone - close, South Yarmouth $82 1 yr warranty $150 Lifetime

Advancce Auto Parts - nearest is Brockton but $88 3yr warr...

Nearest NAPA is in Wareham but the had the highest online price $130

Oh, and nearest "Sheet Happens at Lappens" is in Plymouth - they usually have good prices but they don't list prices online...

Bubba - if you go to autozone.com and enter the info for your truck (I was assuming 95/150/302/AutoOD/4wd), you can probably see if they have it in stock at the local store. But be sure to call them so they can put their hand on it and confirm. Also, if you walk in with the old starter, they can put it on their bench tester to confirm it's bad (instead of high resistance in a wire for example) and then you won't need to pay the refundable core charge which is about 40-50 smackers too...

thanks I know about the place in hyannis they take a while.
I can rebuild this alt if I had parts, If its not a bad wire it could Be a bad spot on the armature or a dead winding.
But its not woth it. to easy to Buy a new one
