View Full Version : Your worst moment fishing.
JoeBass 04-01-2009, 11:02 AM I'm not trying to dig up bad memories. Just the ones that are old enough that you can laugh at them. (Hopefully!).
One of mine that springs to mind is the time I took a buddy fishing for the first time with me. It was also the last. We were in a rowboat fishing for bass. He insisted on taking swigs of whiskey he had brought and by the time we were ready to leave he was drunk and I was mad. I rowed up to the dock and when we were about 4 feet from it he stands up and takes a big step towards the dock. Not even close. In he goes with a new camera around his neck, gear in his hands. Leaves a hat floating and complete silence for about 5 seconds. Then he bursts to the surface, slightly more sober and crawls up the bank. Never took him again.
RIJIMMY 04-01-2009, 11:15 AM I was 16 yrs old, fishing in a bass boat with my Dad in Candelwood Lake, CT.
using baitcasting and the lure was a rapala shad rap. Dad "Jim, you're getting close to my head when you cast" Jim "No, Im not Dad, I'm nowhere near it.
Repeat the coversation10 times and then THWAP! I imbed the lure deep into his head. I wanted to pull it out, but 2 of the barbs were in the skin. We pull into a marina, a state cop came and brought him to a hospital, an hour or so later he was back and we started fsihing again. he never even got mad at me but I learned my lesson as a know it all teenager.
nklinesider 04-01-2009, 03:28 PM went out fishin at carbuncle pond in coventry about 5 years ago now with my cousin. we borrowed our grandfathers truck, johnboat, and trolling motor, and favorite fishing pole. we got there around 4 and proceded to drink a thirty pack. at about midnight when the beer was gone we decided it was time to go.... so i grabed the oar, which had grandpas pole leaning over it, and the pole went sailing into the water. so after convincing don that it was not sensible to go in after it at night right in the middle of the pond we continued in. there were some kids yelling at us from shore at around 10 and what we didnt know was that they broke the windshield of grandpas truck... even better we thought. after a long drive home from coventry to north kingstown switching drivers every once in a while to keep the other one fresh(which i do not condone at all) we made it home and unpacked the boat.... only to realize we left the motor and battery at the boat ramp that was the last time we drank on the boat
quick decision 04-01-2009, 06:05 PM Braged to my friends late father about this farm pond where I grew up "western mass." for months. Finaly got them to fish the pond with me. I was with my best friend and his father and uncle where on a similar jon boat. I was standing up and fan casting and all of a sudden "SPLASH" i fell in. Nothing broken, just my ego.
Thumper 04-01-2009, 06:17 PM took my g/f fishing the first summer we were dating down at the breach way. I didn't expect to catch anything but we were fishing clams and she hooked up to a blue. I climbed down the rocks to land him for her and my ass got slammed by a wave and fell right in. It was the most embarrassing thing ever, I don't think she minded tho because three years later were still fishing together. :)
Circlehook 04-01-2009, 09:41 PM My worst fishing trip was with my drunk cousin who's motto was, "If you can't tie a knot, tie it alot". He donated about $70 worth of MY pencils into the canal that day. He had never fished before other than freshwater and I should have known better...he also rendered a Penn 704 useless somehow that day...one of MY 704's..

ecduzitgood 04-01-2009, 10:51 PM First time I was allowed to go on my grandfathers boat ('Angler' out of Barnstable) for the Cape Cod Tuna Tournament at the age of 13 (33yrs. ago). I was doing the chumming and cut my finger tip off and wanted so badly to be there I just curled it up so no one could see but after about 10-15 mins they noticed the blood all over the cutting board. I begged them not to go in so they stayed and 30mins. later we hooked up and landed a 680lb. bluefin which I got to watch from the bridge where they made me stay. When we returned to the weigh in they told me I would have to go home and I could not stay for the next four days of the tournament, broke my heart but at least I got to see some beautiful fish. Many other events over the years but that one hurt the most. Even more than my knot (improved clinch) failing after 20mins. fighting a 4'+ striper at the herring run in the canal in the early 80's.
