TEHRAN, Iran –

Speaking to Venezuelan state television late Thursday, Chavez said "Capitalism needs to go down. It has to end. And we must take a transitional road to a new model that we call socialism."

The Venezuelan leader's comments came during a trip to Iran. In recent years, Chavez and Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad — both well-known for their anti-U.S. rhetoric — have boosted economic and political ties.

Chavez's own economic program to institute socialism in Venezuela could slow as his country's oil-dependent economy suffers from falling crude prices. Inflation there has soared above 30 percent, eroding Venezuelans' salaries.

In his decade in power, Chavez has boosted state control over the economy and spent heavily on social programs meant to increase his popularity.
SOUNF FAMILIAR?

Isn't this the guy that all the Dems loved, that all the Hollywood losers go to kiss the ring of, that was so openly popular with Washington Libs until the whole "Satan" comment at the UN ?
Wait...this is smilin' Joe Kennedy's good buddy!

we are so screwed.....

I've read this post twice now, and I still don't have a clue as to what point you're trying to make.

that's not very nice:bshake:

this is excellent, you should read it : you see Obama's agenda is not much different than Chavez's....the results are clearly disasterous but the Obamorons who think Mc Cain is vice-president because he came in second also believe the messiah can somehow cause a different outcome from those that have tried before and failed because he is "SMARTER".... at least when the teleprompter is telling him what to say:jester:

Krauthammer on Obama's real agenda
Rick Moran
Another stellar piece from Charles Krauthammer who rightly points out that the auto industry bailouts and financial mess are only sideshows for our president. Obama's true agenda cuts to the heart of the American experiment in government:

Obama has far different ambitions. His goal is to rewrite the American social compact, to recast the relationship between government and citizen. He wants government to narrow the nation's income and anxiety gaps. Soak the rich for reasons of revenue and justice. Nationalize health care and federalize education to grant all citizens of all classes the freedom from anxiety about health care and college that the rich enjoy. And fund this vast new social safety net through the cash cow of a disguised carbon tax.

Obama is a leveler. He has come to narrow the divide between rich and poor. For him the ultimate social value is fairness. Imposing it upon the American social order is his mission.

Fairness through leveling is the essence of Obamaism. (Asked by Charlie Gibson during a campaign debate about his support for raising capital gains taxes -- even if they caused a net revenue loss to the government -- Obama stuck to the tax hike "for purposes of fairness.") The elements are highly progressive taxation, federalized health care and higher education, and revenue-producing energy controls. But first he must deal with the sideshows. They could sink the economy and poison his public support before he gets to enact his real agenda.

Charles believes that Obama will actually come to regret his deep intervention into the auto business. What is likely to emerge from all the maneuvering is a car industry that will get everyone mad at him - consumers, labor, and bondholders.

But this pales in comparison to Obama's real purposes:

Bizarre and constitutionally suspect as these interventions may be, the transformation of the American system will come from elsewhere. The credit crisis will pass and the auto overcapacity will sort itself out one way or the other. The reordering of the American system will come not from these temporary interventions, into which Obama has reluctantly waded. It will come from Obama's real agenda: his holy trinity of health care, education and energy. Out of these will come a radical extension of the welfare state; social and economic leveling in the name of fairness; and a massive increase in the size, scope and reach of government.
If Obama has his way, the change that is coming is a new America: "fair," leveled and social democratic. Obama didn't get elected to warranty your muffler. He's here to warranty your life.

Imho, Charles Krauthammer has a pretty good grasp on most things, is reasonable,
and in this case he's right on.

Is reasonable? Are you sure you're thinking of the right person?

Sure he makes some sense now and then but he's as paranoid as they get. Another talking head who's out to show they're right today regardless of what they said last week.

Geez Spence, your painting the man with a pretty wide brush.

Diagnosing him as paranoid?
Pulitzer Prize Winner a talking head?
Right today regardless of what he said last week?

Guess i don't know him that well or listen to him that much to make those kind of judgements.

In all sincerity, I'm always open to learning, fill me in on more, especially about his flip flopping.

Well, I'm not a doctor so I can't make a formal diagnosis but he sure seems paranoid to me :hihi:

He's a very smart guy so most of it sounds great, but on FOX there's never any rebuttal when he makes statements as fact that are really opinion, or makes outlandishly hawkish statements.

The other day he said something I found really wacky about GITMO or detainees or something...I'll see if I can find it.

Ya Krauthammer smart, Harvard grad like Barach, i believe, in addition though,
MD, journalist, columnist and been around Washinton a long time.

Smart doesn't mean much to me unless it's tempered with experience and wisdom.
From what I've seen of him, Krauthammer seems like he has both.

Look forward to hearing about his wacky statements, ya keep me learnin. :)

Who wrote all that garbage, anyway...

Nobody believes they actually meant that crap, do they...:rollem:

I mean, you know, nobody that's really smart takes all that seriously...

Or for that matter, no one who's really wealthy...

From the UK Guardian...apparently all journalists do no get a tingle running down their leg when the messiah is speaking...this is just hilarious, I wish he'd been there to report on BO when he was giving a stump speach in Colorado and the teleprompter went down and the aimless babbling began and he started talking about giving a child with asthma a "breathalyzer"...clearly an expert on healthcare and...everything else I guess...

The question that flummoxed the great orator

John Crace
The Guardian, Friday 3 April 2009
Article history
Barack Obama, the World's Greatest Orator (™all news organisations), didn't exactly cover himself in glory when the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson asked him a question about who was to blame for the financial crisis. Normally word perfect, Obama ummed, ahed and waffled for the best part of two and a half minutes. Here, John Crace decodes what he was really thinking ...

Nick Robinson: "A question for you both, if I may. The prime minister has repeatedly blamed the United States of America for causing this crisis. France and Germany both blame Britain and America for causing this crisis. Who is right? And isn't the debate about that at the heart of the debate about what to do now?" Brown immediately swivels to leave Obama in pole position. There is a four-second delay before Obama starts speaking [THANKS FOR NOTHING, GORDY BABY. REMIND ME TO HANG YOU OUT TO DRY ONE DAY.] Barack Obama: "I, I, would say that, er ... pause [I HAVEN'T A CLUE] ... if you look at ... pause [WHO IS THIS NICK ROBINSON JERK?] ... the, the sources of this crisis ... pause [JUST KEEP GOING, BUDDY] ... the United States certainly has some accounting to do with respect to . . . pause [I'M IN WAY TOO DEEP HERE] ... a regulatory system that was inadequate to the massive changes that have taken place in the global financial system ... pause, close eyes [THIS IS GOING TO GO DOWN LIKE A CROCK OF %$%$%$%$ BACK HOME. HELP]. I think what is also true is that ... pause [I WANT NICK ROBINSON TO DISAPPEAR] ... here in Great Britain ... pause [%$%$%$%$, GORDY'S THE HOST, DON'T LAND HIM IN IT] ... here in continental Europe ... pause [DAMN IT, BLAME EVERYONE.] ... around the world. We were seeing the same mismatch between the regulatory regimes that were in place and er ... pause [I'VE LOST MY TRAIN OF THOUGHT AGAIN] ... the highly integrated, er, global capital markets that have emerged ... pause [I'M REALLY WINGING IT NOW]. So at this point, I'm less interested in ... pause [YOU] ... identifying blame than fixing the problem. I think we've taken some very aggressive steps in the United States to do so, not just responding to the immediate crisis, ensuring banks are adequately capitalised, er, dealing with the enormous, er ... pause [WHY DIDN'T I QUIT WHILE I WAS AHEAD?] ... drop-off in demand and contraction that has taken place. More importantly, for the long term, making sure that we've got a set of, er, er, regulations that are up to the task, er, and that includes, er, a number that will be discussed at this summit. I think there's a lot of convergence between all the parties involved about the need, for example, to focus not on the legal form that a particular financial product takes or the institution it emerges from, but rather what's the risk involved, what's the function of this product and how do we regulate that adequately, much more effective coordination, er, between countries so we can, er, anticipate the risks that are involved there. Dealing with the, er, problem of derivatives markets, making sure we have set up systems, er, that can reduce some of the risks there. So, I actually think ... pause [FANTASTIC. I'VE LOST EVERYONE, INCLUDING MYSELF] ... there's enormous consensus that has emerged in terms of what we need to do now and, er ... pause [I'M OUTTA HERE. TIME FOR THE USUAL CLOSING BOLLOCKS] ... I'm a great believer in looking forwards than looking backwards.
