So what did you all like with the boat show?

I thought the best bang for the buck was the 236 Sailfish from Striper Marina. Liam liked the boat too :D . The hull borrows heavily from my favorite, the 23 Seacraft and over all looked good. Not excellent but good. The Transom sucks up a lot of space - almost too much. And it alternated between fantastic hardware and less than mediocre (example - they used barely threaded screws to latch the leaning post seat over the storage bin - very weak). Nicely equipped for 41K (one guy said 44 the other 41).

Those Seaswirls were sweet as usual - still like that 21CC

Hydrasports had some sweet boats. That 240 Vector was nice but that 23 Bay Bolt is sweet. Wouldn't bring it to Cuttyhunk on days other 23s would be fine but it would be great in the Bay or on smooth days in the harbor. Sweetest thing was the amount of room and 2 hughe livewells...

Also met Scott, the owner of Viking Marine (Trayder's sometimes boss , hehehe) and he impressed me as honest & knowledgeable and not the typical boat salesman at all... Their Scout boats are pretty sweet too.

All in all, decent show. Didn't buy anything (never intended too) but had a ball watching my son climb all over the boats. I've also decided that a high wall with a closed off transom is the way to go. Walkarounds are just too easy for him to walk around :rollem:

There is a 23 Regulator in the wantads. It has twin 4stroke, dow on the cape. Guy says he pait 74000. in 2001, selling for 60000. I believe.

I read this about the 23 Sailfish, "btw, the owner of the company was there and says he bought the original Potter designed Seacraft molds and this is the same hull..though made lighter and faster now . " Now if someone would buy the 27 Blackfin CC mold and make it faster........I had a chance at a 27 Blackfin before I bought the Fountain, but someone bought it and did a complete re-hab. Wow, and they have the nerve of storing it at my marina, uncovered of course!

TRO - the hull is suprisingly not a direct splash of the Potter 23. It's missing that forward strake that cuts across the sharpest part of the bow:

Plus Sailfish says its a 9 foot beam versus 8' 2" on the SC with a tick more flare on the 236 .

Some of the other boats like the 216 is a dead ringer for the 20SC ...

I was disappointed with some of the hardware and finnish on that sailfish but it's 15+ cheaper than the current Tracker Seacraft.

There is so much mis-information about Potter designed molds and SeaCraft boats in general that its kind of funny.

Carl Mosely designed the original seacrafts, the variable deadrise hull they are known for. Bill Pptter purchased the company from Mosley in 1968. Potter left the company and it went to CSY in 1979 and them Tracker/Johnie Moriss bought it from them in the mid 80's. The first Tracker boats gave SeaCraft such a bad name that in the late 80's all the molds were Suposivly destroyed, literally run over by bulldozers and then buried.

The new SeaCrafts, STILL owned by Tracker/Johnie Moriss with a tad of Brunswick thrown in.... are actually Splash molded boats from the original 1970-1980 hulls. This is kind of humerous because boats like- Sailfish, Key Largo, Nauset islander, Palm Beach, Cape Cod 26, and the Silverhawk are also splash mold renditions of the 1970-1980 SeaCraft hulls.

One other funny tid bit is I often see people with SeaCrafts of 1980 or later vintage advertising them for sale as Potter built boats. NOPE Bill Potter left bought SeaCraft in 1968 and left in 1979.

I should clarify that the new 20-23 are splash molded from the original 20 and 23 hulls, I do not know where the new 21 came from and the 32?? is also a new design.

When I left my wife said..."Don't buy anything...too big", I replied, Don't worry, I will give you a call if its much over six figures. Re-newed my subscriptions to soundings and OTW...got out of there cheap!

No sc's at the show....seems odd sc missing the "ocean state" (again). That sailfish did have many elements of the sc23.

My favorite CC was the 33 hydra-sports. That is a very thoughtfully laid out design loaded with built ins and among the best fit and finish of any. Overkill for most of my needs but ...who cares I really like it. I would like to go for a ride after being in the sc31. I have to head to that dealer this summer and see what he would give me on my boat on a trade up. :D The HS 33 has the best console lay out of any I have seen. It is such a big boat though that I would fear that twin 250's would not be enough to really move it. Triples look a little funky and make push the cost to own from outragoues to insane.

I also liked the Osprey (30?) a pratical fishing machine. Looked pretty solid and tight (had a serious cabin and rear station w/ twin diesels crusing at 6gph)

And that tug-boat looked great as a live-aboard for those nights when your in the dog house.

How about that fishing kayak that you pedal and it cycles two fins for power? strange.

Did you see that guy from jamestown who had boat computers? He and I got talking about CC computing possibilities. He had all the pieces right there. He says this boat computer thing (one computer big screen, tying in sensors as needed is almost here.)


I need to find 500K in a bag somewhere laying in the street to satisfy my boating needs.

I went to the Boat Show Yesterday, I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to look around but here are my favorites.

1. Parker 2120 Sport Cabin, (what a well built usefull boat)
2. Boston Whalers new 21' Outrage, looks like they finally got it right.
3. Grady White's 23' Walkaround 232...Real Nice
4. The Scout 185 with the yellow hull, perfect bay boat.

I was dissapointed that there were no Regulators there, and I did not see Edgewaters...

Hydrasport Bay Bolt. If I can sell the Mako this spring, that baybolt will be in the driveway by spring:drool:

Hey John - No Seacraft at the show? The Hartford show is coming up, so I guess I'll go there. I don't really go to either often, but I feel the same way walking out of a boat show as I do walking out of a strip club!

Yeah, you get all worked up over all the nice STUFF you see, but then you realize that it's not yours, its not gonna be, and you're just teasing yourself - and after all, you've got your own at home anyway. Well, this year maybe I'll get one of those coil washdown hoses they had at the show last year.

I fell in love with that Hydra-Sports Bay Bolt 2300 at the Fall Boston show.
